One HDD disappears after PC sleeps

So I just installed my 120 gb OCZ Agility 3, and to get the best of it I needed to activate AHCI.

And now my 1.5TB WD Caviar Black disappears after my PC wakes up after hibernation...

Any ideas?

Win 7 Ultimate and I enabled it in BIOS. Do I need to download drivers too?

Yep only after hibernation. Wait, one time I was looking at the POST and when it came time to detect that particular drive, it got stuck at "SATA3..................................." Hm...

You have to activate the AHCI driver in Windows. I am surprised that you can get back into Windows after changing just your BIOS. Here is a link to the way Microsoft says you can switch to AHCI or RAID after installing Windows http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 I have done it this way about 5 or 6 times and it does work. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure I understand. I just put the computer in hibernation. How do I check if the HDDs hibernate or not?

Thank you for that. Sadly, after doing this my HDD still does the disappearing act. Sigh.

Hoorux it looks like Microsoft may have a hotfix for this problem. It seems that when you bring your computer out of hibernation the SATA driver expects the drive to be ready within 10 seconds. The larger drives can take longer. Here is the link

You are not getting the stop messages because it is not your boot drive that is disappearing but I think the hotfix probably still applies to your situation. Good luck.

Sorry about that, Microsoft did a bad job of designing the web page. The link is at the top left next to the crescent wrench and screwdriver. When you get to the hotfix download page at step number 1 click "Show hotfixes for all platforms" it will expand the list. Be sure to get the right version. x86 = 32 bit, x64 = 64 bit I hope this fixes it for you.
