online gaming freezes often

When i play online games such as warcraft 3 or mmos, the game freezes for a bit and then goes into super speed for a bit to catch up. It does this quite often throughout a game. It is super annoying to me. Any ideas how to fix this? my internet connection is constant, but it is wireless so dunno if that is a problem. My download speeds are quite fast, going at about 1mb/s, so i don't think its the connection problem.

Wireless G? If so Try wireless N
I have had the same problem with Call of duty WaW. Right after sp2 came out for Vista I had several issues exactly like what you described, since then I have gotten new driver's for everything i could or reinstalled what I could not get new driver's for,not sure what took care of it but it wasn't the Air link driver, (my wireless N card) everything has been fine since that. I'm not sure if that will help you or not but it helped me,and i'm happy now

well i am using a wireless G router, so it would cost to get a wireless N router

. wondering what is causing this tho. Haven't had this before back then when i was using xp. perhaps some funky thing with vista?

no, in lan with a wired connection or just single player, there is no freezing whatsoever. all is smooth.

well that sucks. just got a new modem too. internet provider is comcast. any ideas how its doing this? or how to make it better?

Could be your wireless adapter, have you tried just hard wiring your connection?

Ok, i finally got a chance to test it and yeah it is fine with the wire. I guess theres something with the router or the usb dongle i am using.

That's your problem. USB internet adapters are fine for surfing the web (most of the time) but are no good for gaming. If you want to continue using wireless get a PCI internet adapter. The D-Link 2320 is nice, cheap and works well.

get a real wireless card with external antenna. depending on the router you have. If its a dlink get this card, it does support 802.11n/b/g.

jeez this blows then. I bought that usb dongle like a few months ago since the old one didn't support vista. I was mislead by an article that said the PCI and USB adapters are no different. Bleh, next time i am going to ask my questions here to make certain before buying stuff. Thanks guys

USB adapters have their uses. BUt if you want a solid, fast, responsive connection they just aren't there yet. I have the Linksys in my house. My router is upstairs and the PC is downstairs on the opposite side of the house. I get 4 to 5 bars very little noise, a solid G connection with ping times in the low 20's for most games.
