Opteron 165 temperature

I would like to know what a normal temperature would be for a AMD Opteron 165 CPU, mine is at 45-49C, is it ok or way high?
Also im having 5-9C difference beetwen the cores, ist this normal?

The difference between cores, I'm not quite sure if it's normal to have a large difference, but they will normally be different, especially as one core will very likely be used much more than the other.
About normal temperatures, tht's a little high, but it depends on your cooling, and if it's OCed or not.
My non-OCed 4200+ X2 is getting 44*c right now (SpeedFan, I'm going to have a look for something from AMD, any suggestions?)

I would recommend re-seating your heatsink. Are those idle temps?

the cores on my opty 165 never seem to be exactly the same, if in doubt just take of your cooler and reapply it to make sure its even on both sides of the chip.

if by normal temp you mean Idle then that is far to high for the idle temp, but if that is the temp on full load it is more than fine.

Mine is overclocked @2.5ghz and I have 40c idle 46c loaded.

i took those measurings while browsing with firefox and using winamp, when idel its somethiong like 40-45. How should i re-seat the heatsink?

mines at 2.7 and idles about 38 to 40 and the highest it rarely hits is 50

Unclip the HSF and unplug the fan, remove and use Isopropyl Alcohol or similar to clean off the old thermal paste from the HSF and CPU. Then re-apply a small amount of thermal compound such as Artic Silver 5 or similar to the centre of the CPU and replace the HSF, giving it a little twist before closing the clip.

there is always a difference between both cores, mine is about 9-11 degrees C at idle, under load the difference becomes less, but still substantial. For example, using a single core program, under load I can have a 9C difference, under 100% both core usage the difference is about 3c

iv just tested the temps at load and it hits 56C

And if that doesn't work, and you're on stock cooling, I think everyone would agree that some new cooling would likely be the best way to go.

I'm using the stock Opteron heatpipe cooler, seems to do a good enough job here.

Well, different for everyone I guess.
Although the stock Opteron cooler is pretty good.
If his case is like mine, it needs a vent on the side panel, like my older case. Helped lower CPU temps a bit, and the vent was even blocked up quite a bit, since it had a fan I couldn't be bothered to either turn on or take out

Agreed , fans are the way forward. I have a 120mm inlet + 120mm outlet, plus the PSU exhaust, seems to do the trick. Can't be arsed to cut holes in my case, lol

I have one 120mm fan in the back, one 92mm fan in the front and the CPU is cooled by a Glacialtech Igloo 7700 MC http://www.glacialtech.com/product/socket_7700_MC.htm Maybe i should stick that 92mm case fan on the other side of the cpu cooler
