I will be switching to a Core i9-13900K for our GPU test system soon. Probably some time in December, after the NVIDIA and AMD reviews are done and I have 2-3 weeks to add new games and retest 30+ cards with 20-25 games. Also waiting for a couple of new titles to come out.

The big question is what OS to use?

I'm aware a lot of (majority?) our readers are using Windows 10 and are very happy with it. On the other hand, Windows 11 is the latest and greatest, and Intel claims that Windows 11 has better awareness of the Hybrid architecture on Raptor Lake. Is the difference significant? I haven't seen any data either way.

Your thoughts?
Is there any intention to test the 7950X against the 5800X or some other processor using the 53 game test setup?

i won't go win11 at all, don't give a toss about support

And that is precisely the mindset that made Windows as obnoxious as possible for everyone else. Considered using Linux if it bothers you that much?

¿A mindset that i don't like to be shoved with crap UI tht got redesigned on a whim with no usability in mind on a slower and shittier OS?
¿i don't understand how that is "obnoxious"?
Have you not considered the problem is MS and their stupid UI design decision changing stuff that did not need to be changed, that's the obnoxious thing. Win11 is to Win10 what win8 was to win7, a horrible unfriendly bad UI with more "dumbing down" that leads to people hating it and skipping it entirely.

¿why would i go with linux either?, if MS bad decisions bother me, i'll keep using the superior and faster OS that is win10 forever until they release a win12 with the same UI principles as windows 10

That's more the excuse than the reason as there always was a healthy middle-ground between "feature-update-spam + undless unwanted UI changes" vs "nothing", ie, LTSC nails the "you'll get security updates for a decade without the bloat" (whilst MS openly says running W11 without TPM is already 'unsupported' and may not get future security updates which makes the entire OS far less secure than what's its trying to replace for hundreds of millions of PC's. And LTSC was the same highly desirable "secure & reliable without the bloat" version that MS actively prevented end-users from acquiring purely to oversell the Windows Store. So I wouldn't blame end users for something that has absolute zero to do with "security" as seen with W10 LTSC IoT (end of support = Jan 13th 2032). There never was any reason why they couldn't sell that as "W10 Ultimate" to consumers who want reliability far more than a 3rd attempt at another cr*ppy store.

Do BOTH once with your "TPU 50 Megabench" games review. :p If there isn't any substantial performance difference, stick to Win11 for the future.

And if there is a substantial performance difference between Win10 & Win11 we will have something to laugh and discuss.

There's lots of talk about LSTC, but in some basic research, I found LSTB to be closer to what I want out of Windows. Haven't dug too far into that, though, so maybe it's not as cool as it sounds.

Because it's not. The support is limited to security updates and universal app support being removed break compatibility even with time appropriate software. Newer games don't run in LTSB, and it's not compatible with newer PCs either.

The most current LTS images built out of 1809 and 21H2 are still serviceable for the time being, but they will not support newer generations of hardware either.

These are not intended for end users. Use Windows Pro edition and configure it with Winaero Tweaker without removing OS components. That is the way to do it.

Where can I buy this W10 that is supported through to 2032?

You can't. It's not supposed to be used by end users. It's a corporate product.

Addressing the other replies to me: I understand your grievances and even sympathize with some of them, but Microsoft doesn't care. Windows is not designed with people like you in mind, but less knowledgeable users instead.

It's up to you to adapt. My only argument is that staying behind is not a sane option. LTS branches are not a fix. Holding out is pointless and resistance is futile. Be the change you want to see, and ditch Microsoft Windows. Until the analytics show a sharp drop in the amount of users, Microsoft will never back off.

For gaming I would recommend checking out Pop! and Nobara. Cheers

Win10 scheduler doesn't work well for P + E cores though?

Win11 for sure if that's the CPU.

I agree with Dragon on this one, as someone who owns Raptor Lake now, I feel like i have no choice but to do Win 11 if I want best performance. My vote goes to Win 11 for this reason.

Windows 10.
A lot of "features" on Windows 11 bog down the system. While it might be better with new Intel CPUs, it's still hit and miss with AMD ones, but since you'll be using the Intel CPU then, okay.
Plus, Windows 11 is filled with ads and bloatware, taking up resources and people still report stability problems like BSODs on the latest and greatest.
It would be best to test both how they fare then make a decision based on that.
Personally, I won't go near W11 up until I am forced to do so (after the support ends)...
What ads and bloatware are you talking about I see none of that going on on my Win 11 pro system

I know my Windows N key from Europe blocks all the ads. So it may just be your country has laws preventing M$ from doing this, or you have an N key.

No idea I bought a key from GoDeal24 via their advertisement on TPU so whatever they sell is what I'm using for windows 11 pro

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
I hate Windows 11, the interface is stupid and the further push towards OS as a service (steady erosion of ownernship now applies to our personal data and user preferences by default, and it's getting steadily more complicated to disable that behaviour) but unless W10 gets a scheduler that can handle non-hetrogenous architectures properly, it's irrelevant for testing newer hardware.

Hi,
Strip it down and it's okay but you then realize it's win-10 striped down so yeah what's the point I personally can live without terminal and finding settings again.

If it wasn't for the API ball and chain I'd have already ditched windows a decade ago.

I am quite confused why this is even a discussion .
That a lot of people still use Win10 is not really relevant.
It's about how many people will use Win10 vs Win11 with a 13900k.
I believe most (almost all?) people will use Win11 because its recommended due to better E-core scheduling support.

Forget those two OSs, how about testing the build on Windows 8.x and 7?

Windows 8.x and Windows 10 is the same thing with a different digit.

Windows 7 and Windows XP can be used but I don't know if they will support the drivers for all components.

I think the default GPU test system should not require a dedicated nuclear power plant just for the CPU and then require massive rezoning plan from the regional government to setup a second nuclear power plant for the GPU.
