Others having wifi issues on Windows 8?

I've been busy chasing my tail for the last few weeks as all three of the Windows 8 desktops in the household have decided to randomly chuck a wobbly with poor internet reliability. They use different wireless adapters. I've had every type of problem, mostly random disconnecting from the hotspot, but also freezing Youtube videos and outright BSODs from driver problems. It's been so bad that I made a batch file to ping the modem from multiple machines to check for dropouts while I've tested them.

My own desktop and laptop machines on Windows 10 have been seemingly immune. I've already upgraded two of the Windows 8 machines to Windows 10, after which their Speedtest download speeds nearly doubled and are running much better now. This has got to be some kind of issue with Windows 8? I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar problems.

What wifi chip are you using in Windows 8?

Need some chip names and some hardware id to be able to help better.

No it doesn't.

W8x works fine. 802.11 wifi protocols or support for those protocols don't change depending the version of Windows you are running. If things improved when you upgraded a computer from W8 to W10 (assuming no other changes whatsoever), then it was likely the driver for the adapter caused the improvement, not the OS. And of courses, drivers are the responsibility of the hardware maker.

Other factors that may have impacted was the security programs you were running with W8 vs W10. Other programs you had running with W8. Settings you made in W8. Then of course, there is the physical placement and position of the computer and/or its wifi antenna before and after the upgrade. Other nearby sources of interference and more.
