Check to see if your cpu fan is running. If it is, check to see if there is a build-up of dust in the fins. If so, clean it out. I just use canned air.

If neither of those are the problem, try removing the heatsink from the processor, cleaning the thermal compound from both the heatsink and cpu, then applying new thermal compound, like Arctic Silver 5.

Well, have you cleaned dust out of your PC?

With airflow you generally want intakes in the front, and side, and exhaust at the rear and top of the case, this depends on case design and how much they allowed for fans.

With your CPU cooler (assuming OEM), it may either not be seated correctly, or needs to be re-seated. If you do reseat it, you will need some Thermal Interface Compound such as Arctic Silver 5 (check Newegg, or google it) or Arctic Cooling MX-1, both are top rated.

Also those 8800GTX's are furnaces, it will increase the ambeint air temp inside your case, so having good airflow helps a lot, it seems the card is keeping itself cool enough, but you may want to place a fan to blow on it to keep it cooler and maybe cool the air around it.

I have a section on the basics of cooling in my guide (link in sig), it may help you out. Keep us posted! :toast:

thanks very much for your quick replies
i have tried all the ones you replied back with and also my case fans are doing more or less exactly wat you said also
i will try and resit my cpu and clean the cpu and heatsink base and reapply the paste nice and thin and even
i will post my results later also i will include some pictures of my case fans positions
many thanks

do you think my psu is big enough to run my spec?
would this alter anything regarding how much power is going to any componant and resulting the over heating?
thanks

Clean the CPU surface and HSF surface with q-tips and rubbing alcohol before re-applying compount. Maybe you already know that, just figure'd I'd throw it out there though.

There's no way that AMD should hit 80C under load at stock speeds unless the HSF isn't seated correctly, so verify it is and I bet you'll be okay! :toast:

Well it may be struggling a bit. If it's a higher quality 500W it's probably okay, if not, it's most likely straining. You may want to get a 600W just to be on the safe side. Your system probably uses less than 500W, but it helps to have a buffer between your system peak and your PSU peak. I have a link that can tell you how much your system uses in WATTS in my guide (eXtreme PSU Calculator). Check it out! I recommend the Corsair HX620 for you if you can afford it, it's a great PSU, I have the 520W variant and it kicks ass!

But if the PSU stresses, it can start to stress other components which can cause damage and failure, and you don't want that for sure! :toast:

Righto
after all your replies i went down to my local pc shop and got myself some Titan CPU paste cleaned off everything and applied this
CPU idles at 35 degrees
Graphics idle 46 degrees
Memory idle 29 degrees

Gaming
CPU 42 degree
Graphics 58 degree
Memory around 35 degree

Also got myself a Titan double system exhaust blower and wat a differance it makes to my overall temps

Many thanks for all your replies in asisting me on my situation :respect::toast:

Now time for some OVERCLOCKING

Where do i start?

Glad that helped! Next time you decide to reseat your heatsinks, look at getting a tube of Arctic Silver 5, it's really good stuff. The tube is tiny, you may think it's overpriced at first, but 1 tube goes a long ways. But as long as what you got works fine, then no worries! Also, airflow can have a big impact, especially when you have a furnace pumping out heat (8800GTX). Good job for getting your temps down!

Read my guide, it has some suggestions if you're new to OC-ing, there's also a few guides I have provided links to in there for OC-ing AMD's, Intel's and more once you've decided you're ready to OC your system! You should read as much as you can stand on Overclocking your components, google each one (i.e., google RAM to find out OC info, google your AMD 4800, etc), the more you know the better off you will be. Overclocking may just be "increasing speed" but it affects so much more that many over-look and pay a price for! Hope that helps! :toast:
