Overclocking DDR400

So far I have had no luck at overclocking my Team DDR400 RAM, I need some assistance as Im a newbie to this. Ive got heatspreaders that actually cool the ram (unlike those fake, non copper ones). The timings are 3 3 3 and something I forgot to write (wtf?) Asyncrhonos.. (wtf???). Its running at 2.7 volts currently. I have the P4S800 motherboard and the max speed for the ram is 400Mhz (200x2).

Help?

Could you provide more information? At what point does the RAM start giving errors in memtest? Is it at 201MHz? If you want to increase the clock speeds, you may need to lower the timings, or increase the voltage.

Personally, my GeIL DDR400 can only reach about 210MHz at 2-3-3-6 timings before I start to get errors, but each manufacturer, and each STICK of RAM is different, so what's true for others wont be true for you.

There's really two things you can do to make the RAM speed ceiling higher:

Increase Voltage
Relax Timings (which can negate speed increases)

But as V said, need more info.

put the ram voltage up to 2.85, RAM generally goes pretty high on volts...plus you got good heatspreaders

i find when i use the ram on 1:1 i can get 252mhz of out the ram fine but when i change the devider to a lower one the max i get is like 220mhz! i have no idea why?!!!! but all ram runns different, but if u have changed the divider that could be why?

Thats odd, it might be a quirk of that ULi chipset. Tried any custom bios?

nope, dont suppose u have link? have had some problems which the drivers b4 when using usb 2.0

The ram to processor/FSB ratio is 1:1 O_O... Right now its running at 219mhz @ 2.7volts (impossible to add more voltage).

(Its at stock speeds. Btw, i removed the manufacturing info >=D)

Its shit, after looking at this thread I just realised my processor and ram was overclocked.. FTW...

FSB speed = 875.8mhz... I need a new northbridge cooler; its getting hot.

What's your chipset voltage at?

Dunno... no info on it...
Processor is at 1.6000 V, RAM at 2.7, GPU Stock voltage..
Must not Ramp Voltages over 1.7 volts = SNDS

EDIT:

Northwood @3551 mhz, 887mhz FSB, DDR400 @221mhz... doing fine, no problems, no errors.

your vcore seems a tad too high.... what are your temps at?

what are you using to get 26c? thats damn good...

lol... u won't believe it.. im using a generic copper "flower shape" CPU cooler. Its pure copper and got heaps of fins:D. This cooler pumps all the heat out. its a 3000 RPM fan, its getting old and I should buy another one for another $30 AUD. It looks quite nice... ill take a photo of it. It comes with a socket 478 mounting bars (just like zalman), 775 mounting bars (as well as backplate), AMD retention clip (for older sockets), socket 423/370/479 mounting bracket. It comes in a pure copper or pure aluminium make. The Thermal paste is already on the base of the cooler, and you just have to remove the peel and whack on the cooler.
Its relatively quiet, and not annoying. Ill post pics of it later

I changed from a celeron D to a Pentium 4... then I used some crappy, expensive thermal paste which didn't help at all. Since the Celeron D was a PressHOT I saw huge temperature drops (yay for northwood/deathwood). After applying new thermal paste everthing seemed cooler (no crashes)

Retention mechanism (NOTE PC IS ON!!!!) Vizo sleet RAM coolers.

Rofl....

EDIT: Shit theres a lot of dust... photos make me spot problems more easily for some odd reason.

wow, i've seen those before... is it better than a zalman?

Its definately cheaper (waah by nearly $40AUD) dunno, never used a zalman. A northwood only generates enough heat for it to rise over room temperatures. Most people who benchmark use an aftermarket cooler and get similar results (most of the time worse :D). This cooler is tiny in comparison to blue orb coolers and is made from pure copper (apart from the fan module) The base of it is identical to the "flower" shaped zalman coolers.
I should worry if I were to install a thermaltake blue orb on my new motherboard (sadly the PSU hasn't arrived; vendor bullshitting about missing stock).
How fast are the motors of the other coolers? This one is 3150RPM.

The RAMsinks installed on my RAM modules are Vizo Sleet Copper Heatspreaders (Copper and Aluminum version)

EDIT: A design problem with thermaltake's Blue Orb cooler is that most of the heat is dissipated by the mammoth fan before it reaches the end of the fins. I reckon thermaltake SHOULD decrease the size of the cooler by a fair bit. Its too huge!!!'
The cooler that I have is basically a clone of a ZALMAN 7000A Cu except with the fins taller and the circumference slightly less.

hey, just flip the northbridge cooler the other way

lets not get off topic here.....i would suggest you keep your 1:1 ratio and see how far you can get your memory to go...maybe loosen timing a bit but dont go to far

You can't turn the northbridge cooler. Look at the posts. It doesn't have another set on the other side.

if you loosen to much and go higher im not so sure you would get the performance boost you are looking for...i would stick with 3-3-3-8 and see how far it goes...are you wanting more cpu speed or memory speed?

Wow I would make sure that your CPU temp readings are correct. 24c on a P4 overclock is insanely awesome! Search online for tweak guides for memory oc'ing.

The only thing you can do with that mem is loosen the timings a bit, and perhaps get another 20-30mhz out of it
