Hi guys i have a problem just new to overclocking just getting the basics.. Im overclocking my cpu from 3.3 ghz standard to 4ghz with ease by just changing the cpu ratio to x20 still at stock voltages auto running stable at 20degrees max 35 degrees so thats ok yes? now when i go to x20.5 41111mhz i become unstable pc freezes in windows file explorer extc... And when i change cpu fsb frequency by just a little i cant even start windows freezes on loading windows now my question how can i get higher then 4ghz? Or am i bottlenecked by something?
Rig : cpu amd fx6100 black edition
Gpu amd radeon hd 7770 black edition
Motherboard msi 760gm-p23 ( fx ms - 7641)
Ram corsair 8gb ddr3 1333
Ssd 120gb
Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
I it the voltage? I did it a couple steps but no improvement a bit scared to go higher wat is the safe max voltage? Pls help Would love going to 4,8 if possible what do i need to do?

Thanks in advance

I`m not too experienced with overclocking fx series but when it comes to AMD chips I consider 1.5V safe voltage. Increasing NB voltage could help also. I see no reason to FSB overclock when you have unlocked multi. Couple steps in voltage is plus 0.1 volts which is not enough plus when you go near the maximum overclock of the cpu you would need much much more voltage for small increase in freq plus the temp and power draw would raise. In other words if it is not for benching it is not worth for 24/7.

I have the exactly same build and yes it sucks but you can make it rock stable at least at stock using these few changes and settings:

1. Get a (cheap) aftermarket cpu cooler. I use Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2 (18 euros at my country)
2. Update your bios https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/760GM-P23-FX.html#down-bios
3. Disable at your bios:
OC genie
Turbo mode
APM (Application Power Management)
Cool ‘n’ Quiet
Core C6 State
C1E
4. Don't OC
5. Change voltages to:
CPU voltage 1.135
NB voltage 1.135
everything else auto.

Results are stable FX 6300 at 3.5
idle 17 C
full load 37 C

Enjoy!
Hope I helped!

Thank you mrGenius! I wish somebody posted the exactly same thing last month I tried everything to get this done!
You are most welcome!!!
