Hello there
Some of you fine chaps and chapesses were kind and patient enough with me a while back when I was having some problems with my X99 based build. Thankfully I got my X99 Deluxe RMA'd and have a new one, and have started the process over again. I thought I would share my findings and quite probably seek your help again This processor seems a little bit fragile TBH and gets scared above 4.2-ish GHz, so I would like everyone to help encourage him to his best If you must be "overclocker-veteran-grumpy" then please add a lolcat or something to your grumble, to take the edge off lol
SPECS:
5820K
X99 DELUXE (BIOS 1103, latest one)
16GB CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 2666MHz (running at 2133 for now)
2 x 980GTX EVGA SC ACX 2.0
H105 cooler
A bunch of SP120 fans and one AF140 in an H440 case
1000W Superflower Leadex Platinum (Power reqs calculated at 770W with everything at 100% max)
Samsung 850 Pro SSD 512GB
WD Caviar Black 2TB
So I started off at 3.8GHz and a fairly high voltage of 1.28V. It was nice and stable in AIDA64 (I know, its not very challenging) and ROG Realbench. I am steering clear of Prime 95 and OCCT as frankly they scare the crap out of me and I have a suspicion it may have exacerbated my last board's problems (I didnt use linpack though, it was the other one and pushed my temps to mid-80's)
Then I pushed the multi up to 4.0GHz, again stable with above parameters.
Then I got cocky Multi to 43, voltage (VCore) to 1.28. AIDA was happy but Realbench just laughed. I decided to make just a 15 minute RB test my goal for now, so I tried:
VCore to 1.3V, not a lot of difference
VCCIN to 2V - alone, gave a couple of extra mins in RB but still blue screen
Cache Multi to 40 + Cache voltage to 1.28V, passed the 15 minute RB test. Small celebration.
Temps in RB are around 60 degrees.
Final settings for tonight:
VCore: 1.3V (yellow in BIOS)
VCCIN: 2.0V (purple in BIOS)
Cache Multi: 40
VCache: 1.28V (yellow in BIOS)
Ideally I don't like that VCCIN and would rather have not had to up the cache, though I have found a number of reviews that stated they needed similar values. So again, mine doesn't look like the best clocker out there, but it has passed a little hurdle tonight There's a ton of other settings that confuse the life of me in that Deluxe, so I think the next goal will be 45 minutes in RealBench!
