I haven't seen any 4TB SSD models for sale other then this one so I couldn't honestly say one way or the other if this 4TB model is over priced or not. Naturally I'm not really in the market for one so that could be why I am not in the know. While I do own a 1TB SSD I would expect a 4TB SSD to be quite expensive,...

However, you are definitely mistaken in your assertions about "a 3 year old laptop" since this article and product line are aimed at the 2013 Mac Pro which is a well know cylindrical shaped desktop not the Mac Book Pro which is a laptop.

50c/gb is about the going price for SSDs... So the 4tb is not really overpriced, it is also a pcie ssd for the macpro, trashcan not book. The others cost a bit of a premium, but this is pcie ssd, and no one makes one over 512gb right now.

Yeah I actually found the price quite reasonable considering we pay ~200$ for a 500GB scaled exactly that would be 1600$ and there's always a price premium for larger drives. An extra 400$ for a single volume isn't bad. Also thinking about how much people pay for high end Mac's 2 grand shouldn't make them bat a lash.

Although I only paid ~$200 USD for my 1TB SSD from Sandisk, it was a sale price in or around Black Friday. That is a SATA model though not mSATA, M.2 or PCIe.
