P35 or X38

Since my mobo died should i get a p35 or a x38?

I want one with 90 degree sata, it doesnt have to have it.

umm needs to oc well.

I was looking at the Asus blitz formula (p35) but its water cooled chipset, so if i didn't water cool it would it be ok? its a little expensive though.

So what should i get?

Im not really biased toward any brand.

I just got the DFI Lanparty Dark P35-T2RS. It does have 90 degree SATA ports which is nice. It is fairly cheap too at $135. It's a great overclocker, but I haven't pushed it much yet.

Only drawbacks I see are that there is no onboard Firewire and that there is no SLI/Crossfire support. But if you don't need those then it's a great board.

It fits an Ultra 120 quite nicely despite having a high-ish NB cooler, as seen in this pic I took:

get the asus x38 p5e it oc great and if you ever whant to do crossfier you will have 16 x16 insted of 16 x4 with a p35. allso faster fsb 1600

DFI p35 t2r is awesome, and an awesome OC'r. Support xfire, and 45nm CHips.

Or the DFI x38. Support xfire 16x 16x, 45nm chips and xeons.

ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA great MB ...love the bios options ....for the near future ,unless your want DDR3 you can't go wrong

I have to go with the X38. I agree that a better bios is still needed but overall a solid board none the less. However, if cost is an issue get the cheapest between the 2. Just remember that the X48 is more geared for DDR3 then DDR2 IMO.

That one is the WC version which they no longer sell.

They are not as big as your think. The NB uses IHS (IE: the die is no longer exposed). While the SB looks the same as before.

You should be happy with it. I have some rudimentary information about X38 (if that's what your purchased) it if you have any problems.

Are you using a CPU/Ram other then what's in your System Specs?

I'm going P35 for now...good OC-ability for a dated build like mine, and since I have no want or need for SLI/CF(x), it works out perfectly for me.

I will be getting a DFI Lanparty Dark P35-T2RS soon, I've read some good things about the board...pretty much a larger and better featured BloodIron. I figure I will go x48+ when I decide to create a completely new build in the next year-ish...go DDR3, quad core, 1333/1600fsb, etc. But if you look at my system specs, really there is no need to go beyond a P35 which is pretty much the perfect replacement for my dead P965.

I'm sure by the time I decide to start a new build, there'll be a few more chipsets out there, but at least in my situation, the for now tells me P35 for my needs with my build in the future. Definately something that is important to consider when making such a purchase imo.
