what is a good program for partitioning a hard drive. it has XP Pro on it now, and we wanna put Vista on it, with out a format.

Norton Partition magic, or acronis, or paragon...

Better format. To be safe.;)

Oh i am sorry i thought you wanted to copy Vista over XP.:D

Norton partition magic is pretty easy to use! but like technicks said, better format it!

i just downloaded a trial of partition magic and told it to make a 30GB partition and when i clicked on apply it said this is a trial version, and it didnt do anything. what is a good freeware or shareware partition program?

Be very carefull with Partition Magic. If you don't make a rescue floppy then you are F#cked if it goes bad. I am talking out of expierence.

I totally agree with technicks on that one! i screwed up my partition quite badly and had to reformat the whole thing.

I've had much greater success with Acronis Disk Director Suite over Partition Magic. I've never had a failure with Acronis, but have had many with PM.
