Hey guys,

Very strange problem here. So i re-decorated my room a couple days ago which meant i had to take everything out, including my PC. Since re-decorating and getting everything back in my room, my computer now takes about 10 minutes to boot up! It sits at the Gigabyte screen for at least 8 minutes! At first i thought it was a lose SATA/IDE cable, so i re-connected it all. No luck.

When it finally gets into Windows Desktop, the computer runs just fine as it always has. All my games run okay, 3D Mark 06 is good, no apparent errors etc. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks all,

Hux.

That is very odd, you tried clearing CMOS?

Check if all your RAM is recognised. Run CPU-Z and memtest.

Though it is strange. I mean I've got a Celeron 333Mhz with 128MB RAM, and it boots XP SP2 in 6 minutes...

my RW friend and lurker here, avarice had a similar issue. his was related to a dead PCI-E slot... try taking the video card out and running a PCI spare.

In his case, the mobos slot was fried and only worked in 4x mode, but in yours it could simply be dust in the slot. the only other thing i can think of, is a bad master/slave setting on an IDE drive (auto detect often goes wrong like that, so i always force mine)

Unplug your HDD and optical drives and boot. If the POST still takes forever, then your mobo has a problem. Otherwise, check jumpers and CMOS for correct drive settings.

Mines actually boots really fast for some reason. Takes about three passes for the Windows Bar and im in Windows. But for me, the Menu bar at the bottom is what takes a long time to load(more likely because of the anti virus software that runs at the bottom corner.

It sounds like something just got knocked loose when you moved your computer. Like several others above said, check your jumpers, check your slots for dust, check that everything is seated (even your battery), etc.

also - prob not that big of an issue, but did you move your rig to a different wall outlet?

It's possible that there's a noticeable difference in the current that is affecting your PSU and it's only noticeable at startup.

If you did change outlets, try plugging back in to the one you were on originally. If it runs normal again, you might want to consider rearranging stuff, or picking up a quality UPS or surge protector.

Try downloading the diagnostic tool for your HDD from the manufacturer. There could be a problem with your hard drive (bad sectors or something).

Does'nt hurt to check.
