PC power cycles once at a cold boot then goes into Windows.

Hey guys, so I have noticed my PC power cycles once at start up after a cold boot then goes into Windows normally.

Basically I hit the power button PC turns on for a few seconds fans spin, shuts off then on then boots into Windows and I can use my computer normally without issue.

It's been doing this for a while now and I've just kind of had ignored it but I was thinking it could be something I may need to look into.

My specs are an i7 2600k, Asus p8p67 deluxe mother board, gtx 1070, 16 gbs of RAM and an 800 watt psu.

My CPU is over locked to 4.3 ghz as well.

I would disconnect all drives. See if it POSTS without restarting. PSU is suspect if it still does it

Ok and if it post normally after I disconnect the drives what is the next thing I should try?

Clean install or repair

Make sure you're turning the switch on the PSU off and back on

Ok but why would windows cause this? It seems to be a hardware issue and I should add it only does this if my PC has been unplugged or powered down for a few hours.

There is literately a list of causes including a bad system. Just narrowing it down. And you are leaving information out.

Just stick another PSU in it

How far does it get before it restarts?

Memory issue that being worked out if it then goes into windows and works fine? Have you check your BIOS settings? You can always try one stick at a time see if it doesn't cycle off and on to eliminate the possibility of it being the memory

I ran memtest a couple of times and my ram passed everytime. I will see if I have fast boot on.

My PC only comes on for a few seconds and nothing shows on the display when I first power it on.

Odd thing is once it's loaded into Windows everything runs flawlessly.

I will try booting with one stick of ram but it's difficult taking the ram out due to my heatsink being in the way.

Another vote for making sure Fast Startup is turned off. It can sometimes cause strange behavior at boot on older boards, as it’s actually hibernating the machine rather than shutting it down. Windows doesn’t do this when you’re performing a simple restart, which could explain why it only happens from a cold boot. Fast Startup is an annoying useless feature, and one of the first things I disable on a clean install.

I went through this same thing with my p67 and 2600k. Try disabling "Internal PLL Overvoltage" in BIOS and that should help.

Edit: Also, if that doesn't do the trick, Enable "Power on by PCIe"

I still have my P67 system, and when I disabled Internal PLL Overvoltage in BIOS I never saw a double post on cold boot again.

Are you sure it is actually going through a power cycle? Could it be there is just a few seconds where your monitor goes dark as your graphics solution and monitor "handshake" to sort out which resolution to settle on?

I have same issue and it's the bios. I flashed to an updated one which stopped the on-off-on again cycle when turning it on but created other issues with my ram so I downgraded to original bios and the issue is back. If it's not bios it's ram timings or something. Do you use manual or xmp timings?

Thanks man, that's exactly what it was. I disabled the pll overvoltage and it fires right up.
