My PC randomly restarts. Just now it restarted 2x in a row back to windows desktop. The last time it did it was 2 days ago.
This is my older system but still my primary while i continue to work on my new build. I will switch to my new build now but want to see if i can have this as a reliable back up workstation/tradestation.

I am trying to diagnose this. Is it a hardware or software issue ? It never restarts in windrows recovery environment, just normal desktop.

If it was the PSU would it not just shut down rather than restart? or any piece of hardware for that matter..

I tried removing overclock and then reset cmos. I did some Windows scans and repairs.

My next step might be to do a "In-Place Upgrade" But i thought i would see what the forums say. If i can get any more specific things to troubleshooot consider.

April 2013 i Bought the PSU

Are there any dmp files in LiveKernelReports folder?

No, when PSUs start to fail, they typically exhibit erratic intermittent errors. They don't always just "stop working" or die in a glorious and noisy puff of smoke.

Same with most devices, not just computers.

Your PSU is ten years old. It doesn't owe you anything anymore. Be grateful that you got ten years of faithful service, buy a replacement and move on.

Best of luck.

so you know for sure it is my PSU and not my Motherboard, ram, cpu, gpu's, ssd's, Windows10 or other software? you are really good

Of course I don't know for sure. No one here does. How could they?

If you don't like my suggestion, feel free to ignore it. That won't necessarily make it wrong though. And you don't need to say it aloud. Keep doing that and eventually no one here will bother to answer your questions.

I hereby bow out of further participation in this discussion. Best wishes to you in solving your conundrum.

i have no problem buying a new psu and trying it. iwas just looking for anyother obvious things i missed. and btw "buy a replacement and move on." sounds like a definitive statement

See if you can borrow a PSU from a friend or let your PC test at a shop with a new PSU.

This is the easiest first step
C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports
Also check Event Viewer for errors when the reboot happened

Remove the 3 gt 640s and try 1 at a time

Okay, Question 1: Why the hell do you run 3x GT640s?

i will probably pull my shift out of my new build to test PSU, or buy one i can return or keep as a backup

I'd recommend keeping new power supply and keeping old one as a backup if it proves not to be bad.
