Hi,

I have been experiencing this f**king problem with my pc after the anniversary update. Every time i play GTA 5 and DotA 2, my pc restarts.

I have monitored the temperatures on my CPU and GPU. GPU max is around 70 while CPU max is around 50-60.

From Event Viewer:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Either BIOS or PSU or hardware... definitely not the windows 10. Such sudden deaths are hard faults usually.

I haven't had this single issue before the anniversary update and with the current AMD drivers.

12V from PSU is steady, but there is a spike in the GPU clock I am only using Chrome.

I have downloaded the latest beta drivers from AMD and played GTA 5 and searched for some spaceship parts and it restarted once again. Please check the logs I had from GPU-Z.

You trashed the files?

Sounds to me like a faulty psu. First I'd try is swapping the psu with another to check or try another gpu.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out on my PSU.

I won't be playing games until I buy a new one. I will be buying a bronze unit only due to my budget.

I will bookmark this thread and update if the problem still persist after a new PSU.

Check to see if fast startup is enabled under power options in the control panel.

It doesn't effect everyone but it can cause issues with the computer shutting down as you describe, and it's an easy check.

Can you share tools to check RAM and HDD? I don't have a spare PSU so let me check the RAM and HDD first.

I don't have a driver conflict, my Windows update is disabled using Windows Update Mini Tool. I have done clean install in my GPU drivers.

Check to see if fast startup is enabled under power options in the control panel.

It doesn't effect everyone but it can cause issues with the computer shutting down as you describe, and it's an easy check.

I can't seem to find the fast startup in my control panel.

My PC twice restarted this day without playing any games.

Just browsing the net, youtube, facebook and stuff.

So PSU issue?

I've had random blue screens after Anniversary update. Seems to be the only common denominator for me.

Much of my hardware is older, but it was perfectly stable before the update. And I had been running Win 10 with SLI 780s so I doubt power is an issue since I'm consuming much less now.

Keep us updated on whatever you find.

EDIT: As for your question, yes try a new or known good power supply first.

Sorry for the late response, just got done with work.

You were on the right control panel, you should just need to click on Change settings that are currently unavailable to show the Turn on fast start option.

While this might not be your problem, as it could be hardware related, what made me think of this was others (as well as myself) have had this issue in windows 10 after initial and anniversary update.

First time I encountered this was when I upgraded from 8.1 to win 10, doing research revealed that this has been an issue since 8.1 for many users.

Hope this helps, if not it's time to start checking hardware options as others suggested such as the psu.

Good to know that I am not alone with this problem. I have followed to disable fast boot and will try to check on my pc everyday.

I am also waiting for tools to check HDD and RAM and will check it our as well.

Never had this problem in Windows 7 sigh :(

I don't have that option since I have disabled hibernate in my command prompt. I enabled it again and then got the fast boot off now.

Will try to test this for a while and respond to you back.

Any tools for HDD and RAM check?

Well for RAM testing Memtest is still the goto For HDD all that comes to mind is Crystaldisk but that is more about checking the disc health but someone else may have a better suggestions.

Ram - uses MEMTEST burn to bootable disk /usb - restart pc boot of disk let it run 2 full passes
Hdd - depends on the Hdd make , but i would use harddrive sentinel trail version , will give you a user friendly gui , check health of the hdd is good and no bad sectors - better just to check if the health is ok than running stresstful test which drive could fail if in bad condition
Hdd -seeing as running WD drives the hdd diagnotic they use is -wddiag (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows)

There is no easy way to test a Psu ,other than trying a new working unit
If able to remove psu from pc .Take the cover off and check if any blown or swollen/bulged capacitors

I have disabled the Fast Boot and now I can surf or facebook or youtube or photoshop in 5-6 hours before it restarted. Last time I can only do this around 2-3 hours. So there is an improvement here.

I am currently downloading the latest Windows 10 update Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3189866) right now and will wait for it to finish and install.

After, I will check my RAM and HDD and post results here.

So i tried to run Unigine Valley and it restart when the benchmark starts to run. After the restart, after typing my password, it restarted again.

After the second restart, I can now log in to desktop. Tsk

Before I did a clean install of Windows, I updated Windows 10 to the latest patch with the Cumulative Updates with the Malicious Removal and etc, ran Unigine and I was in the middle of the benchmark (50%) and it restarted.

Just now, I finished my Windows 10 clean install and ran the Unigine again and it ran 75% and it restarted.

So, PSU issue?

Sadly, I don't have someone whos PSU is available. I will try to roll back the drivers and see if I can complete Unigine.

I have some old drivers here in my pc.

There was somebody having the same issues with me. His working driver was 16.7.3, tried it in my system and I almost finished the unigine benchmark before it restarted. I was on the dragon part before it will give the score.

I will be doing the memtest today.

For the PSU, we can't send it back due to Philippine policy. I will buy a new one this december if my RAM are ok.

For me it sounds like mainboard or PSU, not Ram, but we will see.

I am not convinced this is a hardware issue and since this didnt start until after the win10 anniversary update. VDDC spikes like that dont mean anything, if just means GPU usage. Restarts can be from a number of things software related, if it happens only during gaming it could point to your Vcard, if it happens anytime even while AFK, it could suggest other things. There is also crash dumps, if you can decipher them could help you get an idea what to look at.

So, try to get and upload a log from CPU-z or Speccy (free) or Aida64 ($$??). I havent tried this but I heard that if you can connect to a phone, tablet or another pc, set the log to save to somewhere on that device (if enough space).

So try to eliminate reasons windows has to force a restart. Start with this:
1. Go into settings >Update/Security > windows update > advance options and change "Choose how updates installed" drop down box to "Notify to schedule restart".

If this didnt happen in Win7, reinstall it and dont upgrade until you can nail this down.
