Hi friends,

Yesterday morning my pc was working just fine, i went to close my system but there was this system update just before it shut down so i let that do what it does and went out.

İ came home and started my pc but it asked me to "reboot and select proper boot device"

İ thought the priority order on my bios was switched from Hard disk to dvd and checked and it didn't helped at all (btw, i can see my hdd in my bios)

After this, i checked my cables but that didn't helped as well.

Since my Win 7 disc will not be in my hands for the next 2 days, i wanted to know if anyone knows what's up with this problem.

Thank you all in advance,

Regards.

Does it boot ok in safe mode?
Try hard drive diagnostics and see if it has failed.

Thank you for the reply friend.

After opening the computer i can't even get to see the windows 7 logo, it says"reboot and select proper bootdevice" so i can't reach to the safe mode option menu list.

By the way, i have a AsRock motherboard.

Have you disconnected any drives? That were attached when you formatted and install windows? USB or SATA

Do a system repair with the install disk

The error message i get on W 7 when i disconnect the bootable hdd via SATA is
PXE-MOF:
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
consequently it may be safe to assume it is not SATA cable or connection issues.

I am assuming you are using a a genuine copy of W 7. ?

Installing Linux via USB may be an option for reading the hdd, i have only limited experience on this though have used this method.

İ haven't done any formatting nor installing, my Win 7 was running just fine before shutting the system.

Last i thing i remember was, before closing the pc there was a system update and this happened.

And i have a genuine Windows 7.

Well your boot record is damaged or the drive. You need to boot to your system disk and repair.

Try F8 on start up

So this is a OEM PC?

İ have a disc which will arrive in 2 days.

Can't get to F8 part because after Bios info the "reboot and select boot device" comes up.

İ hope the Windows repair will fix the damaged boot record if that's the case. :(

İt's funny how all of this started after windows update *sigh.

Thank you brother.

On startup press the delete key to get in to the bios and see if the hard drive is seen or not. If it's not their reconnect the hard drive if it still fails to show try another connection from the motherboard to the drive and see if that works, if all that fails you could have a failed hard drive.

Built it myself, but why ?

So when you installed Windows 7. Was there any other drive besides the C: drive?

Also some manufactures put a key specific recovery in

Well Windows 7 will place the MBR on any other drive you have connected when installing. So if the other drive is not connected any longer or has gone south it will not boot. That is what the problem is

It doesn't matter if "you only us it for storage"

So sense you have the install disk. Disconnect all other drives and format and reinstall. The can't see the disk is another issue. BIOS AHCI /IDE changes lately? Like when you did the last update?

Sorry for the late reply.

İ have managed to fix the entire problem by pressing shift + f10 key to get to cmd, from there on, i deleted the partition list that wa assigned before and that solved my not visible c: drive on my windows repair screen.

After rebooting, i did the startup repair and after that was finished, i typed the following in cmd:

bootrec.exe /FixMbr
bootrec.exe /FixBoot

These did the job and i got my Windows and my drive back.

What have i learned from this ?
İ like booting and i can not lie.

Thank you all for helping me out!

Awesome glad it worked out :), you might want to run a SMART check on the drive and run a HDTune check too just in case the drive is failing.
