Two days ago I had an issue in which a new CPU upgrade did not work. I tried both my 1090T (supported in that motherboard with my BIOS update), and my old 9950BE. Both did not get into BIOS. In my previous thread we came to the conclusion that the motherboard died.

Today I bought a new motherboard - an ASUS M4A88T-M. This supports the 1090T CPU. It claims on the box that it is AMD 6 core ready out of the box. I got new DDR3 RAM to go with it.

I plugged it in today and I have the same issue. When I turn on the power, the fans spin, the motherboard light goes on, and my video card lights go on. But I can not get into the BIOS. No beeps, nothing. It just sits there, lights on, with it's fans spinning.

I know this is not my RAM or motherboard as these are brand new. What about the PSU? It is supplying power to all the parts... I doubt it is the 1090T, as I had the same issue with the AMD 9950BE in my old motherboard.

What can it be?

Yesterday I removed a motherboard in a different PC, upgraded the CPU to an AMD 965, put a new heat sink/back plate in, and have been using it for hours with no issues. So I doubt I am doing something wrong in the installation.

I've had a bad PSU do the same thing to me once. Most likely the culprit.

Thanks for the reply.

I noticed a red light flashing under my RAM modules. According to the motherboard manual, it says that light flashes if there is a DRAM issue. I tried booting with one stick of RAM with no luck.

This is a brand-new package of Crucial DDR3 2x2GB PC3 10600 memory. If it is a RAM issue, would the system still POST?

It depends on the issue. Have you tried all of the slots?

I tried all of the slots.

Without any memory in the motherboard, it has a repeating beep sound. I will assume this is not the motherboard then?

The manual states to hold down the MemOK switch to try and start RAM, however this does nothing.

Also, what are the symptoms of a defective Am3 CPU?

mobo may not like the ram

I took the PC down to microcenter, the RAM and motherboard work flawlessly with a different CPU. It was a bad CPU, so I am going to RMA it. I should have a replacement in a few days.

That was a lot of stuffing around for you, but at least you have the answer for sure this time.
Good luck!

Next time just RMA the CPU just in case.....LOL
and I hope their is never a next time...

Replacement CPU came in today and is working great so far.

However, I have one concern. Under HWmonitor, it says my Processor us using 141 Watts at its default speed. Is this normal? I was under the impression that it would only consume a maximum of 125w at the default core clock.

I'd say that's just HWmonitor doing its usual incorrect reading.
You're better off using CPU-Z :)

They will do more than listed wattage under full load.....

Only if they're OCed, which I'm presuming is not the case here.
