Hello, I removed my GPU couple of months ago and ripped the PCie clip off, because i forgot to clip ot back.
I tried reinserting it and it worked but the mechanism is not as firm as before. The GPU works still and even with no PCIE lock. I contacted my MoBo manufacturer and they said from the pictures I sent them that my GPU should still work normally. Has anyone had any issues or are there any other known issues for this PCIE lock issue and is it worth investing in a new Mobo? The Mobo is the B 550 MSI Tomahawk

A lot of the weight is taken by the slot and the bracket, so it should be alright, but I'd be careful when you're moving the PC around.

So besides holding the GPU in place there is no other use for the clip? What I mean is , if the clip is not present would it affect the Gpu's performance?

It is to hold the card firmly in place in case the case is moved ect. Mine has been broken for years. When you put the card in and screw down the back plane, give the card a gentle push down on the slot
to make sure it's all the way in. Then do not move your case! I have no issues with my card this way.

That just secures the card better, it's perfectly safe to use it without that clip like said above.

In fact I've broken those from several retro boards on purpose, as it's annoying to have that clip when switching graphics cards.

Hi,
Don't think it's much different than dimm lock clips which just snap on.

So ripped off ?
Think we'll need an image of both seeing if it really ripped off the pci-e slot would of came off too.

Here is a licture of the slot with and without the GPU. I reinserted the clip after i ripped it off

don't worry.
this clip is only there to make sure that the card can not slip out of the socket. screw it down properly and everything is fine.

The clip is useless, not at all worth even considering getting a new board over a missing clip.

Hi,
If it messed it up a little just baby the lower slot clip off and swap them out.

I've also ripped that off, it's totally fine
