So as the title suggests, I want to know what is the better performing all round chip of the 2 mentioned.

i7 930 and PII 1090T

1st off clock for clock, where do they stand? both single threaded and non threaded apps!

secondly overclocked, whats an easy overclock for both and whats the average max of both? and does this affect the overall performance vs one and other or does that remain the same?

Whats easier to work with? I have had an i7 920 before and that was fairly easy to get to 4ghz on all 3 x58 b oards I ever owned, can the same be said about the 1090T?

Let the fight start now!!!

Clock for clock, the i7 wins everything hands down. Only exception might be movie encoding, but the i7 still might win that.

well how can you compare a six core to an 8 core?

well how can you compare a six core to an 8 core?

6 physical cores to 4 physical and 4 virtual cores, fairly easy I would imagine.

im sure there will be a flame war here but intel will win 90% of the test because there architecure is faster

6 physical cores to 4 physical and 4 virtual cores, fairly easy I would imagine.

Architecture to a different architecture makes no sense.

For instance. An i7 920 at 3ghz vs a i7 930 at 3ghz can easily be compared clock for clock.

However: A Pentium 4 at 3.2ghz vs an i7 930 at 3.2ghz (with two threads only) cannot be.

Clock for clock is an unfair comparison between different architectures. What do you plan to gain from this?

that's what i was kinda getting at... apples and oranges type of deal

Architecture to a different architecture makes no sense.

Of course they're different architectures, hell why would I want to compare an i7 930 and an i7 950 clock for clock when they would perform the same?

I want to know how the 6 real cores of a 1090t compare to 4 physical and 4 virtual of a i7, your statement makes no sense.

Fact is they are very close in price, so I think my question is valid in wanting to know which is the overall winner in everyday singlethreaded and multithreaded apps.

I think I know what would win between an p4 and an i7 that wasn''t my question, and it would be a totally stupid question if it was. Do I look like I wanna drop £200 on a p4?

From my personal experience with both...

i7 > 1090T, by a huge amount, in mostly everything.

The biggest and most awesome thing about 1090T's is the unlocked multiplier, less heat output, value, and awesome performance in apps that PROPERLY utilize all the physical cores the 1090T has to offer.

For everything else outside of the things mentioned... any i7 (even 1156 based ones) destroy the 1090T, its just the way the cookie crumbles. :D

Edit: Also from my personal experience, this smells of troll. :D

Yeah, I assume you know enough to realize the obvious..Intel wins. I still don't see the point of the thread, except to point out the obvious. Even in overclocking, Intel wins. It's been like this since Intel debuted i7.

So, uh...what was the question?

Price makes Intel the better buy now, too.

According to that link, the x6 beats the 930 17 to 12 stock vs. stock. The x6 is also cheaper.

Thank you for the most non fanboyist post on here in the last 10 mins lol, I honestly thought I was going to get lynched, and when I am told to go and look else where for my answers, well that just beggars belief lol

Please do note that although the processor costs round about the same, you can get a decent AM3 board at less than £80 (880G-UD3H), whereas the X58-UD3R is about £140. And then there is the extra 2gb stick of ram.

you know what, gtfo of the kitchen if you cant take the heat, for a fucking start look at my specs, I am running an AMD proc, now I know i7 is better than PII but if you had took 2 mins to read my post and know that I wanted to know how that boiled down when it came to 6 cores vs 8 threads as an overall comparison maybe your epeen wouldnt have felt so small, I am sorry for that, theres not a lot I can do, but please dont thread crap cause you feel inferior

this is the point of the thread to make an amd vs. intel flame war and everyone is being pulled in:laugh:

Sorry I will repeat, I have an AMD proc, I dont think this is fanboyism, I think a few people think its a dick measuring contest, dont worry its not.... :\

I'll state my point. A question was asked. There are facts and figure to answer the question and a few people gave links. Questioning the validity of the thread doesn't help find the answer asked. If you feel the question is too stupid or "fanboyish" to answer don't bother posting in this thread.

How unfortunate some of you can't handle this. :slap:
