Please recommend me graphics for video and image editing.

I am looking for something inexpensive, quiet and stable to be used
on dual core board under XP. This is NOT a gaming rig.

Would PCIex ASUS GF 7300 GT 256 MB (EN7300 GT) be an overkill?

the 7300GT would be enough (for your budget), but you can also try a GeForce 8500GT and have some future-proof, Costs almost the same and since the 8500 are from newer generation, performs better.

+1 the 8500gt is just a little more and is going to be a lot more future proof and more bang for your buck.

in what way would it be more future proof for video and photo editing?

Anything cheaper that would be good enough for this purpose?
