Point of View Releases its First NVIDIA ION Netbook

POINT OF VIEW, well known for its range of NVIDIA-based Graphics cards, is presenting today the first of its NVIDIA ION-powered mini notebooks: the Mobii ION 230. It has been one of the most asked questions in 2009: "When will you start implementing NVIDIA's ION technology in the Mobii netbooks?" The wait is now over and it's finally here! From the moment of its announcement, the ION/ATOM combo has been one of the most anticipated hardware because it offers full PC capabilities in small, low-power designs.

The Mobii ION 230 combines Intel's energy-efficient Atom 230 CPU with NVIDIA ION graphics to create a small, low-power notebook with amazing capabilities. The ION Graphics Processing Unit is DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 enabled and powers a 10.2" 1024x600 LED LCD screen. It says black red and lime so obviously you're looking at the lime one!
anyway having H.264 HW acceleration and HDMI output is a big plus
but stated battery life gets a minus as my ASUS 1000HE lasts twice as much of that

Meh. Not real impressed... For one, what's the price? Two, why Linux? Btw, Linux is standard? Why? Didn't they get that memo from all the other netbook manufacturers? I mean, will Windows even be an option? You'd think in a press release they'd mention that type of thing, if not simply to inform us whether it will be XP or Vista-based. Oh, and up to 4 hours? Wonder how its "high definition video encoding and playback" capabilities affect that already pathetic figure. Three? Oh, right, it's ugly as sin!!!

Really, nVidia is doing a decent job here. They've put together a good platform, but let's be honest in saying that really, it's nothing ATI couldn't have done if they still designed Intel chipsets. It's not even all that energy efficient if a 6-cell battery can only power the unit 4 hours! The display is tiny and LED backlit! The Atom consumes almost no power! So why the horrible battery life? I'm placing the blame squarely on nVidia for what's shaping up to be a not-so-green chipset. PoV just plain fails completely though. GG.

That said, I think Intel either has significantly more or significantly less to do with Ion's delay than we seem to have been believing.

p.s. You can't playback 1080P with 600 lines so stop saying it!!!

my buddy who works for intel said they are still arguing over that, alot of netbook/sub notebook makers want to use dualcore atom's to help make their netbooks not suck ass so bad for general use, but intel sees that as taking market share away from their low end dualcore core2 based cpu's :/

via just needs to get that dual core nano they talked about thats sposta be 45nm out on the market, that would help a good bit

You output the processed video through the HDMI port, which is very capable of transferring to any HDMI equipped 1080p monitor or HDTV.
