I think the biggest question is pricing. Performance wise these will be a decent step up from 5000 series. I am also interested to see how thermal dense these are 5000 series could already heat up in a hurry and that was less dense with lower TDP on the top end skus.

The other thing I really want to see is how these perform in gaming vs the 5800X3D.

Do not make the mistake of buying this cpu before reviews, intel is getting closer to amd in nm size, soon we will have apples to apples again then we will see what is really the best cpu, by the way my current cpu is 5900x.
I'd never make a purchase decision on a processor alone I prefer to compare overall platforms and can't wait to see what both release.

Is this the 1st time that AMD has released boards with the pins on the board?
On the mainstream socket? Yes. Before Zen1 Epyc AMD had used only 4 sockets (Opteron server chips) that were LGA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_socket#List_of_CPU_sockets_and_slots

On the HEDT and Server side they have been LGA from day 1 of Zen1.
AM5 is the first time they are using LGA on a mainstream socket.

Unless they bring PGA back in the future i think it's safe to say AMD will use LGA from here on out.
hopefully some of those new Motherboards still sport a PS/2 port
Also Serial . Lol joking aside i think some will use PS/2.

Laugh all you want, PS/2 is actually appreciated by Linux users. There are lots of USB 3.x keyboards which needs special drivers which only works in certain Windows versions, otherwise they default to USB 2.0 HID.

The 5000 launch had less of a competition than this one. Alder is great and so is probably Raptor. I bet it will affect pricing somehow, but yeah, Ryzen 7000 won't be cheap.
Also, everything is becoming more expensive.. in best case they will have the same price as 5000.

I have no idea how the new lid affects temp, is it like 4 mm thick? I mean, is it only for heatsink compatibility, or is it to improve temps as well?

So? Keyboard is perfectly fine with USB 2.0 speeds.

Indeed.
Zen4 leaks/rumours say 10% IPC increase and 10-15% higher clocks. If it's 20-25% faster than Zen3, that's really not a whole lot better than the 5800X3D.

Admittedly, they'll be faster for everything else, not just games - but a gamer probably doesn't care about that.

Huh, this is a line of Intel cope that I haven't seen before.

"It's not faaaaaaaaair, you have to wait for us to catch up on what node we're using or you can't say you're the best!!!"

Which is, of course, complete nonsense. "Apples to apples" is whatever's on the market competing at any given time. Why should the rest of the world stand still because Intel's fabs are a disaster? I couldn't give a crap how many nanometers my CPU is. Performance is all that matters, and if these CPUs perform well, I'll likely be buying one. You call me in [x] amount of years when Intel finally get their **** together and maybe I'll consider purchasing one of their products then. You know, assuming they pass an "apples to apples" comparison to whatever's on the market at the time.

The smart move for gamers is probably waiting for X3D varients of these and by then a more stable platform is my guess.

It'll still be interesting though.

Yeah, unless you have a 3090 and 240Hz 1080p monitor, you're unlikely to be burdened by CPU bottlenecks in the overwhelming majority of titles as long as your current CPU isn't a decade-old potato.

Whether you should buy a 5800X3D, Alder Lake, Raptor Lake, or wait for 7xxx X3D variants for a new build will depend on pricing, your budget, and timing. It's likely all options will be competitive in some way, it just depends on what your criteria will be and when you'll need a whole new platform.

Personally, I'm more interested right now in a possible Zen 5 on AM4 refresh, or the rumored X3D updates to the 5900X and 5950X, if only to really max out what I can get for my last AM4 rig to tide me over for a few years on the CPU end.

You mean Zen4. AMD didn't say never, but I doubt they will release it anytime soon because that would canabilze AM5 sales.

Because unlike other tech companies, AMD will allow the reviews to be published 2 days before the sales begin.

I really hope they choose to release the B650 boards at the same time as the X670/X670E this time around since most users even first adapters could properly just be satisfied with the B650 chipset if it doesn't have the same limits as the B450/550 when it comes to 2xM.2. connect will disable 2xSATA ports this is the most annoying thing ever.
I think the sweet sapot will be the 650E boards and will wait for those to appear. I'm also waiting for v-cache models, a 7900X3D would be a beast as clocks will be much higher than with the 5800X3D.

I don't think you will make a wrong decision with either Raptor Lake or Zen 4. Intel will find favour at the low end with 13400 and DDR4 support, but I think Zen 4 will be incredibly competitive and other than RL's with big OC's will easily compete in S/T and M/T while using a lot less power. Plus socket AM5 will be around a long time. Might not get replaced until Zen 7.

More computer component supply/manufacturing disruptions thanks to Pelosi visit to Taiwan this week. Hope AMD have inventory of these new 7000 chips sorted already! But future chips from any manufacturer using cutting edge TSMC foundry tech looks fractured now. Also more confirmation of this evidence here as well.

China was always going to squeeze Tiawan. Pelosi just pressed their hand early. There was always going to be disruption at some point.

Yeah let's just suck up to China because you might get affected.

Same here, nothing in the new platform is appealing, especially pcie 5, pcie4 is enough for GPUs and SSDs need more endurance and random read and write speed increase neither need pcie 5.

Because we have idiots in power.
I don't understand how universities require all these grades and future plans (from an 18years old), or job interviews where they require skills or experience impossible to get, yet those hopelessly idiots in power don't go through any of this, they only need to be good liars, and mislead people, yet unlike in jobs they don't get fired or punished when caught.
