Possible bad CPU??

Yeah he’s still having issues after the RAM swap. So I am looking at a 5700X3D or a 12th Gen Intel for him so he can keep his RAM.

A clean install of Windows would probably help too. Again I haven’t touched it in a little over the 6 years since I built it.

If the voltages are out of wack, a RAM swap wouldn't help.

I just got these from a remote desktop session with him.

The only voltage I see that's unusual is the RAM voltage, 1.375v seems a bit high. Ideally you want to keep it at or below 1.3v. Some RAM kits state 1.35V but the Ryzen 2700/2700X is known for not liking 1.35+ on RAM. Try dropping the RAM voltage to 1.3V and run the RAM at 3200. Should end up stable at those settings. Everything else looks good.

I installed Blue Screen Viewer to try to get some dump reports. It appears to be generic crashing that normally pops up with unstable overclocking. I have turned off the XMP on the G.Skill RAM running it at 2133 now instead of 3000.

I have an older Corsair TX-750W power supply installed now as well. I haven't had any issues since turning off the XMP. Still testing and running different games/benchmarks on it. Even if it stays stable for now, with it not running XMP as it has for many years, I am inclined to believe that the CPU/MB have possibly degraded.

I will give dropping the clocks a try. It has been running a little over 3.5 years with that RAM in there. Only in the past couple of weeks has he started having issues.

Just checked my Microcenter orders. Yeah it’s been in his system that long.

So I spoke with Crucial today.

The RAM is EOL and this is the replacement they are offering. Crucial Pro 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4-3200 UDIMM | CP2K16G4DFRA32A | Crucial.com

My original parts are BL8G36C16U4BL.M8FE1

I would say this is a downgrade for sure... CAS 16 to CAS 22
DDR4 3200 CAS 32, is just JEDEC specs I think. You might be able to somehow tighten the timings.

Thank you all for your assistance. I installed the replacement RAM from Crucial and all is well.

I am still going to keep an eye out for a platform upgrade for him, but for now he's gaming and happy.

Ok so this is the 3rd set of ram, At some point I would replace the motherboard if another set gets killed...

It didn't kill the G.Skill, I just borrowed it from another system for testing purposes and until the replacement from Crucial came in. The G.Skill RAM still works and is back in the original system. No issues.

But yeah, if it kills a 2nd set of RAM, I will be on the look out for a new CPU/Mobo.

Ok, yeah Crucial Ballistix Gaming 3600 Red in AsRock B550 Steel Legend, Ry7 5800, will be running 3 years next month, i need to dust it (not my rig, i built it though) it even uses a XFX R7 250X Ghost.

I told the owner it has plenty of upgradeability (owner isn't worried)
