Yep, I did the vgpu mod on my R430 core, and got absolutely no higher with it, the temperatures just rose by about 8c

I dont agree. If Vmodding dont help. Then you probably work on the wrong V-line. Adjusting the right voltage always gives you some performance gain. Have you tried the VDDQ? That might be holding you back.

Adjusted my VDD and VDDQ to 2.2V. Now highest stable clocks are core 670, mem 666. Scary the number of the beast..... :twitch:

Wow, 510mhz with the R430 core! That's awsome man!

I might try putting some VR's on it, so i don't have to mess around with 2b pencils.

Vmod

-> I might try putting some VR's on it<- ...jau thats the way I did it and I think it is THE BEST WAY to do any Vmod.
My GPU and Ram was watercooled! and I went up to ~1,68 V on GPU an on Vdd+Vddq ??? I think it was ~2,11 V but not really sure (toooooo loooong ago) maybe U should start with LOWER VOLTAGES to be on the "save side"

can´t finde the screeshot 510/630 only have this one...

Hehehe... No, I´m not a iron maiden fan. But I do listen to them... :toast:

Hope the VDDQ mod makes your card kick ass!!! :rockout:

My graphx card realy rocks after the vgpu, vdd and vddq mods. Unfortunately my motherboard are holding me back. :shadedshu Barely sniffing 7000 points in 3DMark05. With my 1 GB BH-5 and my previous ABIT mobo I was over 7300 points stockvolts..... Awesome graphx-card, I must say. :respect:

Vmod

Hi

...just did the Vmod with a VR and adjusted 1,67V got 681 MHz / 570 MHz but it seems that I got more speed on ram with 1,41 stock voltage (588 MHz / 612 MHz).
Why is it so ?...or do I have to do the VID Vmod ? works this VID-Vmod better then the Vmod with VR ?
Still have a X800Xl bios on it will the ramclock gain by changing to X850XT PE Bios???

With default ramclock´s I can go up to 697 on GPU :toast:
...had only one VR left so I can´t do the VDD+VDDQ will do next weekend.

I think you need the VDD and VDDQ mods to run your mem higher. Testet my gpu with 1.65 V, managed to push it to 681 MHz error free. At VGPU 1.6V VDD 2.2V VDDQ 2.2V, I´m maxed out at 670 MHz gpu 670 Mhz mem. :toast:

Good luck with that nice card of yours, seems like it got some potential. :p

Woot, i just bought a 22 turn 10k for the vgpu, and a pair of 22 turn 50k's for the Vddq and vdd!

Where did you guys get the 20k versions? the 50k will be fine, but i couldn't find the 20k anywhere.

Here's my x800xl voltmods:

As you can see from the pics, i made a nifty measuring point on each of the vmods by hot gluing a piece of soldier to the top of each resistor. This makes measureing the voltage easy!

The left resistor is for the vgpu as you can probably see, unfortunatly the mod isn't effective, and only increases temperatures, so that one's just sat their giving me the option to toast the card if i decide i want a new one! :D

The two on the right are vdd and vddq mods, i love those! Originally i had a max of 555mhz on the mem, now with 2.4v vdd and 2.05v vddq i can achive 610mhz :)

I'd like to thank urlyin for posting the vmods, very useful! Thanks ;)

Thanks for the pics Infrared ... nicely done and the measure points look good :toast: .... so you can increase vcore and voltage goes up but your clocks do not?

Nope :( I went all the way to 1.7v and still no stable increase in speed. Strange :ohwell:

Soldiering to those contact points was the most challenging soldiering i've ever done tho! I sliped and connected all the nearby components together!! Took me ages to get the soldier off :D

The increase in speed on the memory definatly helped a lot though!

cpu oc???

hi infrared

...I still can remember(x800xl+asus p5gd1) that I have to went down with my FSB on CPU!
If I OC my CPU@4500 Mhz I got less speed on x800xk ram! so I went back to 200-250FSB on CPU that was better for my x800xl :)

Set Your FSB back to stock and try again ;) ??? @what speed is Ur CPU running??? 4.8Ghz???

good luck fire113

sorry for my bad english (stupid german I am)

Yeah, i tried setting my cpu at 3.2ghz stock 200x16, but didn't get any better :( Thanks for the suggestion tho :)

4.8ghz is only stable outdoors on a cold night, but i'm trying to get to 5ghz just to show i got there! :D

The X850XT PE seem to be to good for the old intel platform, S478. Installed some new Twinmos SP PC3500 with Hynix D43 chips on it. Run the computer with fsb 260 and slow latencys. Without changing any clocks on the graphx-card my 3DMark05 score jumped from 6800 to 7528 points. X850 still at gpu 660 and mem 660. With my old bh-5 I couldnt run higher than 210 with tight latencys on my ASUS mobo.

So you tweakers out there, try to squeeze some more juice out of your systems. It´s worth it.

Finaly my VR Mods are done!

First I'll show you the pics :rockout:

I've done the mod on my Sapphire X800 Pro ViVo 1.6 AGP that I flashed to XTPE.
The GPU on the card is watercooled with an Aquacomputers Twinplex Rev. 1.2 and the mem is sinked with the Vantec Iceberq.
The area around the 'choke coils' are active cooled bij an 80mm. fan.

With stock voltages it did something like 555 / 1180
Stock voltages are:
- VGPU: 1.41V
- VDD: 2.01V
- VDDQ: 2.08V

For the mod I used for the:
- VGPU: 10K VR
- VDD & VDDQ: 25K VR

With the mod it did 645 / 1224.
The voltages that I used are:
- VGPU: 1.65V
- VDD: 2.18V
- VDDQ: 2.24V

3DMark05 Scores:
- With stock voltages (555 / 1180): 6503
- With the mod (645 / 1224): 7124

!! The scores are with a Mem timing tweak that I found on this site: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55485 !!

Well thats it for now, I'm still tweaking the voltages a bit by bit to find the 'sweet spot'.

My thanx goes out to everybody who posted they're replies in this topic.
..... Am I forgetting something/someone .... :D THANX URLYIN !!!!

I can only tell you what the GPU and Ambient temperatures are because there isn't a temperature sensor in the memory chips.

Clock frequency Core: 555 / Memory: 1180
Stock voltages:
- VGPU: 1.41V
- VDD: 2.01V
- VDDQ: 2.08V

Temps GPU idle: 28ºC
Temps GPU stress: 37~40ºC
Temps Ambient idle: 27ºC
Temps Ambient stress: 35~37ºC

Clock frequency Core: 645 / Memory: 1224
The voltages that I used are:
- VGPU: 1.65V
- VDD: 2.18V
- VDDQ: 2.24V

Temps GPU idle: 30ºC
Temps GPU stress: 47~50ºC
Temps Ambient idle: 30ºC
Temps Ambient stress: 43~49ºC

Please note that the area around the Choke Coils (The area where the ambient temperature sensor is settled) is actively cooled by an 80mm. fan.
If I disable that fan, the Ambient temperature will rise to 60ºC+ !!!

I used a 5k VR and 2 50K VRs. The gpu mod is not shown in the pics :( but looks the same.

before
gpu@1.42V@610
vdd@2.05@560
vddq@2.08

After the voltmod

gpu@1.60V@670:rockout:
vdd@2.15@580
vddq@2.15

I am using an old cpu waterblock on the Card, Innovatek Rev 3.0, it used to be one of the best cpu coolers out there. I fitted some heatsinks on the rams. I might up the vdd and vddq some more to hit 600mhz ram.
Benchmarks results in signature

And the pics

im curious as to what the voltage mod does exactly?

or does it just allow you to OC memory and core speed?

and also why do it on a crappy ati card that is outdated and showing age compared to todays cards
