Just because we can, doesn't mean we should.
I might be the death of us all.

I voted no, and very excited about the possibilities.

DeepSeek just pulled the carpet from underneath the AI robber barons. Not only did they get the job done on pennies, they even bypassed Nvidia's CUDA bs.

The market is being busted wide open with possibilities right now.

The problem is someone will try even if 'we' don't.

While true, and amazing, it scares the crap out of me. The is some much potential for misuse and abuse that it boggle the mind, and I'm not a mind easily boggled.

As far as I see, it's just a millionth chatbot (for now).

What you may not be aware of is the remarkable cost of entry for the above DeepSeek, it's cheap! And it's work well, so well that it's is genuinely scary.
What's even scarier is that MI5, NSA, CIA and TSR all had access to this kind of thing more than a decade ago. Let that sink in... And no, this isn't Tinfoil-Hat crap..

Until AI isn’t retarded we have nothing to worry about.

Thant being said, there is nothing from keeping someone or a government from creating a normal looking item from having starlink internet, an explosive device and the ability to move when not observed get into secure areas fed by AI.

Or from AI assisted terrible bots from using peerless VOIP to call your number since it’s on a website for the non profit you chair…..

car warranty
IRS scam
In debt
Police donations
Firefighters donation
Etc

It's just a chat bot ...
It's going to end the world ...

No, it makes accurate worksheets for my Junior high classes I teach. It assists me in my corpus projects, that otherwise would take half my lifetime to do on my own. It's a tool, that the everyday man should have access to. Let's calm down and get back to earth.

Haven't really found any use-cases for it. For normal gathering information I just use duckduckgo, haven't found it useful in coding either, I can type fast enough on my own.

So... not really sure what the hype is about. I guess some people like "talking" to something instead of just using that something in the classical sense. The danger I see isn't from AI itself but from massive power consumption and incredibly over-valued companies that could collapse at some point.

AI is very effective at using 100GB to 400GB of RAM, thus forcing computer users to buy $15,000 GPUs and tie them together in complex ways.

Except when a new optimization comes out and NVidia loses 10%+ in a week as people realize they don't need as many $15,000 GPUs as expected.

Yeah, DeepSeek is the first, not the last, of the ultra efficient AI pods. NVidia's situation is going to be a bit uncertain for a hot minute..

This didn't take long..
AI officially just got scary. Not cool at all.

What does "under no human intervention" mean? AI doesn't do anything on its own initiative. Someone must have given it the command to create the rogue AI.

It is very obviously just getting exploited for profit by people who couldn't care less about consequences, to the detriment of everyone else. Dead internet theory is quickly becoming a reality due to ai outside of closed forums.

And theres absolutely no reason you should assume you haven't talked to one here as well, frankly.
I've talked to people here who are far worse than chat bots.

To me AI is something that can think for itself, I think we have a lot of stuff "claiming" to be AI. Maybe small things that you could argue actually is AI.
As an example I could get an old eggdrop IRC bot, rebrand it and claim its some new AI thing.
I think I have seen a few examples of ok stuff usually related to graphics, image processing. But also stuff which annoys me, like AI collection of your data, AI being used for chat support by companies (this I deffo see as fake AI, will just be something looking for keywords and then print a response).
