We test Prey on 14 graphics cards at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K using the highest settings available and also take a look at VRAM usage, which is surprisingly modest. The article also describes how to adjust the field of view (which can't be changed in-game), how to remove the hidden FPS cap, and how to skip the intro.

Great quick review. Would you recommend paying for it for the story and gameplay? I loved the original Prey, it was quite creative for its time.

Of course these experiments go wrong, and suddenly you are stuck on the station with a bunch of aliens that want to eat you. The plot does get better, trust me.

LOL, love it. Nice article/analysis... and now I want to take that game for a spin on one of my two 290x's

Ah yes, can't wait for all the fury x apologists to yell "told ya so" on performance while ignoring the two years of 980ti supremacy.

Best news of this review is that you're enjoying it! I liked the original Prey quite a bit, I'll be picking this one up.

Solid. Thanks W1z, itching to torture my wallet now, looks worthy.

EDIT.

I've read somewhere that the devs ar bitching about the PC port thingy, that the game is developed on the PC. (sure sure :3)

Good read. I wish they stayed closer to the original Prey, but hopefully this one turns out just as good.

Arkane also didn't jump head on into any DirectX 12 experiments, which of course means a lost opportunity to dial up the eye candy

DirectX doesn't allow for better eye candy, it allows for more low-level control of the HW. The story pitched by AMD and M$ is that this can bring better performance CPU-wise (and I guess eye candy indirectly). Clearly this game doesn't have performance issues and hence DX12 would have been a vain effort. As stated in the review, higher-res textures might have been sufficient.

Disclaimer: I am a DirectX graphics developer professionally.

Obviously this ain't an open world game really, casual corridor IMHO, although... METRO engine makers even managed to screw performance even in corridors lol.

Lol, Bethesda always has trouble with FoV regardless of engine. They hate FoV, pretty sure they're mad people. At least there's a config file and it's not all baked in!

It's a testament to the Fury's greatness....

That's one way to spin it.

Equally my non future proof card does OK too, and before reasonable clocks.

AMD Vs nVidia nonsense aside, game looks good, I'll pick it up at less silly prices.

What a terrible port. They managed to kinda tank the AMD cards, eh? They should be ashamed. Notice, even at 4k the super gimp 970 beats a 480...come on.

Wasn't this a Vega launch title?

Maybe I dreamt that.

Oh the whole Vega is coming be prepared BS:

I liked the original Prey as well. Might wait for this to go on sale before buying....

Doesn't seem like a game that would interest me, at least not when I've other games I want to play but it does look okay and seems to perform pretty good. Would love to see a CPU test as well but that would probably take too much time to do. Seems like AMD still has a couple tweak to do since Polaris (RX 480 specifically) is fairly behind the GTX 1060.

Thanks W1zzard! Arkane has yet to let me down, so you made my risky pre-order look like a good move. I do wish they had more options as well.

People keeps mentioning they liked the first so they may try this. That's like saying you like hamburgers, so you're gonna eat ice cream, hoping it's good. :D

Arkane has said repeatedly, it's an entirely different game and IP, not a reboot or a refresh, not the same studio, nothing is the same but the name. They bought the name rights and decided to start from scratch. W1zzard even said all this in the intro.

TLDR previous awesome game by a different studio has no bearing on current game by different studio that only carries over the name.

Great review , happy to see the Fury x make good results , i hope they implement Vulkan so we can see how it goes .

Didn't AMD state they were working closely with Bethesda on Prey (and upcoming games).
I'm not seeing the results. What would have happened if they didn't...

Nvidia rolled up with fat stacks of cash lol

Although, Bethesda is incompetent. Also, ports can be outsourced to some real dipshits.

I think that included for Ryzen as well. Be interersting to see Ryzen V Intel.

Sorry I was wrong it's running on CRYENGINE 4 apparently but I ran into this: Vulkan support for CryEngine is still scheduled for version 5.4 for "late May 2017"

Actually RX480 and GTX 1060 are on the same level overall, whether you believe it or not.
