Prey Performance Analysis

Would it be possible to add system RAM usage numbers to your games analysis? More and more games are requiring a minimum of 8GB and recommending 16GB. It would be really useful to know if a game goes past 8GB and by how much.

Been playing for a while without restart, so no memory leaks

Thank you, but how much is the overall system usage? The specific process memory usage is in some cases not completely accurate.

Seems the game scales very well. I like it! Is a demo available for PC yet?

There will be no demo. The official word is "Steam refunds is your demo"

Actually RX480 and GTX 1060 are on the same level overall, whether you believe it or not.

Maybe because it was a little bit ambiguous but I meant the RX 480 is fairly behind in this game. I know that both of these GPUs are on the same level.

That's unfair for PC users. The refund time as far as I read is very limited too.

2 hours playtime and longer if you really have a good reason

Very efficient engine. The 2gb gtx1050 doesnt take a penalty at 1080p and the 3gb gtx 1060 doesnt take a hit at 4k. As always, system vram 'usage' is always 50% higher or so than vram NEEDED and usage was already low.

I picked Prey up 10 minutes after it became available and still managed to get the pre order dlc.
It runs like a charm on my FX8350 and gtx 1070 strix @ 1080p full settings. It's always nice when a game runs smooth on day one.

That's more or less an anomaly. Tweaked drivers should bring the RX480 up to par. Though I am curious to see the RX580 series in action and how they compare to Nvidia cards. Especially the Overclocked RX 580 Gaming X editions by MSI.

I am waiting for a sale, but I will be getting this game.

From the article:

"Immersion is excellent, and whoever came up with the idea that enemies can disguise into objects lying around to then scare the hell out of you deserves a medal."

Cool. Overall the game looks like fun to me. I will be getting it.

Thought this was an AMD sponsored title lol o_O

"Prey looks slightly dated and more like a late 2015 title"

All these game have to work on the xbox and/or playstation so the engine is always basic. Understand the tricks of the trade developers use in order to help Nvidia/AMD sell more the latest video game cards then you realize most of the games can be played on video cards from several years ago with solid to good settings @ 1080p. Obviously if you need tons of ground clutter, huge draw distance, shadows from every leaf on a tree, and AA & AF set to ultimate levels then you will soak up a lot more video ram and need beefier cards.

Gotta say judging from what I've seen in screenshots and a video, Prey reminds me a lot of the graphics quality in No Man's Sky. I would never have guessed it ran on CryEngine.

Suffice to say this isn't a compliment to its quality level.

RX 580 5% faster in 1080p compared to pre OC 1060. Both custom models. Fury X less than 20% faster. I'd say it runs pretty well on AMD.

They'll be doing a CPU test later too (including Ryzen).

I've played two recent games running on Cryengine, Homefront: The Revolution, and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3. Neither, with Cryengine 3 looks as good as Crysis 3 does from several years ago.

Personal opinion is that Crytek hasn't licensed all facets of the engine, and kept several measures to themselves for better quality.

Aren't Homefront and Sniper on Cry4?

My theory is, they didn't use Crytek engine fully on all games besides Crysis (3), because it simply demands too much.

That's one way to spin it.

Equally my non future proof card does OK too, and before reasonable clocks.

AMD Vs nVidia nonsense aside, game looks good, I'll pick it up at less silly prices.

Then two posts later...

Wasn't this a Vega launch title?

Maybe I dreamt that.

Oh the whole Vega is coming be prepared BS:

It's a testament to the GTX 970 greatness....

I can see why you would be upset.
