[Problem]Black screen everytime first boot up with windows 8.1

@Daemmon OMG so does flashing Bioses void the warranty??! or does it do any bads Noo.....:((

Flashing a new bios on the mobo is something I would not suggest AT ALL.
Btw, so far my last 3 boots were perfect by starting the PC with my monitor off and then turning it on. I really don't know if this is what is avoiding the issue, or if my issue was just a one-time thing.

How about starting your PC with the monitor on, what would happen?

1) I have had black monitor problems when my monitor and the bios were misleaded by me during experiments with various cables. The technology behind seems easy to fool = black screen. (I had to power down my monitor to recocgnize the correct input.. I also have used iGPU mixed with dGPU and the system went to the dogs)
2) Asus BIOS sometimes autooverclock to much. Check if "extreme" settings are used in the Digi+ section.

I'll check it out as soon as I get home

@Daemmon
@erixx
There appears to be no Digi+ section in my Bios, I couldn't locate it. And I saw no gain nor loss in the speed of my processor, ram, and everything else, all looked just normal as advertised but the temp of my watercooled processor which is about 36 *c at idle, I'm using the old corsair H100.

Since you guys are using Asus Z97 motherboard family as well, I would also like to know if your debug LED always ends up showing 40 every first time power on like mine does. Mine goes back to A0 after a restart.

Sometimes it's necessary. I had fan controller issues after waking up from sleep mode and usb hub connection issues also after sleep with my Z77 motherboard. Solved only by updating BIOS to the latest version for my board.

hey, A0 should be the normal state, unless your are in sleep mode, IIRC.
Digi+ it might be refered differently, it is where the Load Line Calibration stuff is...

And if you are using mostly stock setings, updating the BIOS should not cause ANY harm (people that have problems use to have very tuned settings and can not get them back to work).

You sure you already checked the debug code LED on your mobo during a first boot from a complete shutdown/power off and it showed A0? if you did, then mine is probably defective /:

I've just tried updating from 332.21 to 347.52 which is Nvidia's latest driver and because of it, I'm getting the black screen lock up again after the windows loading screen and again it only happens on first boot, it can only sucessfuly boot into windows after it is restarted by force. Checked Event Viewer and this showed:

And then when I tried to play Dragon Age: Inquisition, all the loading screens in game took forever and after I played for a couple of minutes, the game crashed and this warning message popped out:

So @Ebo apparently multiple hard drives connected during a fresh OS install is not the case is it?

Is this more like my GTX680 is dying or does anyone with older graphic cards experience this as well with the new driver? I had to update my GTX680's driver to the latest release as Dragon Age: Inquisition required me to update it to 347.52 or higher in order to be able to play. This sux.

for the black screen*
are you sure that you monitor is 1st display(primary)?
my sister got both monitor and TV connected to videocard and when she shut down PC with TV as a primary device, she got this black screen(bios and starting windows is ok, but when you try to log - you got black screen
also, got same problem when my IGD(intel grafics) was "on"

A0 is the normal state, 40 is return from a sleep state, if my memory is correct.

That's a EA/Origin error. Several people have fixed in different ways.

Google "getdeviceremovedreason dragon age" and search for the possible solutions, some disable Origin ingame, others removed OCs, honestly I have no idea since I haven't play any of those games. But don't worry, it's probably some driver weird scenario or something like that.

As for the booting on black screen again, I haven't had the issue anymore, and have done nothing to solve it. Happened once randomly.

Where did you turn your IGD off mate?

Thanks for swinging by mate

To bad I've already got the game removed /: hate it when game devs and GPU makers start to behave like that. Thanks for helping me address the problem though, you're my bro mate

I only get the black screen lockup after I get my GTX680's driver updated to the latest release, which is 347.52. Again thanks anyway :)

you can disable IGD via bios(check manuals for that)
or via Win go in device manager, open "Display adapters", rightclick(or double leftclick) on "intel hd graphics 3000"(i got this, may be you'll got some diffences in name), tab "Driver", Disable
afterall you should see smthg like this:

Checked mine, both Device Manager and Screen Resolution showed only one display adapter, my GTX680 so I guess IGD is no longer the suspect da comrade? spasibo!:)

If you have issues with one specific driver, roll back to a previous one.

Since Maxwell driver updates have been seen crippling or causing errors on Kepler cards. I've had instant shutdowns with one version, I've had my GTX 770 (in essence a 680 on steroids) clock down oddly where it wouldn't do so before with another (344.75).

Another really good take, if the official Nvidia driver won't do the trick and you need it for a recent game, is to pick up the same version iCafe drivers. They build those drivers for Chinese internet cafés and they are generally really awesome, less bloated, many people get (slightly) higher bench results on the iCafe version. It's always worth trying, I have never heard of an iCafe driver to break a system.

Try this or google icafe 347.26.

dont know if it could help, but i rolled back to win 8.1,while installing all drivers/soft i had black screen every time i launched "Intel Smart Connect Technology"(if i play music/movie - sound is still available, but no "alt-tab" or "ctrl-alt-del" working)
TV just write "check cables for connection"
also, before uninstalling "Intel Smart Connect Technology" i got black screen in metro redux(starting titles are ok, but before going to main menu i got black screen and "check for cable connection" - sound still playing)
now all working fine(Intel Smart Connect Technology was 4.2.40.2418 version)
and yea, in bios primary device is set to PEG, IGD is off by default, but when i recconect my hdmi cable from videocard(after "check cable for connection") to mobo hdmi port, picture reveals(somehow smart connect
reassign ports)

Checked that part, no luck

also,
Suddenly when starting the computer the desktop icon appear w/their symbols, the internet connects. Then the computer ‘blinks’ all the desktop icons lose their symbols and become plain folders symbols, there's also an X of unavailability on my Internet Acess and after a few seconds they begin returning to their normal symbols again. Got anything to stop this stupid bahavior?

got this as long as I remember
