I am new to pc building and working on a q9650 quad 4 build for my first machine. Its a ep45-ud3p with 4x2gb pc2 6400 ocz sli ready memory, I have 2 rtx 2070 supers running. gpu 1 is a gigabyte windforce 3x oc and I am using different sli auto to pair it with a nvidia rtx super founders edition that I bios flashed to the closest match which is a asus rog strix 2070. I'm using afterburner to match the clock core curve point by point so it matches the gigabyte exact. Both cards memory are clocked at +700. I'm overclocking the cpu to 4.00ghz with the 8.5 multiplier which is putting my memory over the 800 to 960. When benchmarking I am seeing up to 75% usage with both cards on the afterburner overlay when running heaven at ulra full screen settings for a 60hz refresh rate 1920-1080 tv, I'm trying to run battlefield 5 in sli but the overlay is showing gpu1 is doing all the work. I may get 5% out of #2 while #1 is up around 50. I tried using nv profile inspector to optimize and even deleted the premade profile on there and tried working up my own. the only options i ever get in nvidia control panel are force afr1 or 2 no matter what i do and they both seem to work the same. i am using a nvlink #9432 that i believe is for a 2080ti i read in quite a few places it should work well. i was seriously limited in my choice for the nvlink as i am stuck with 3 slot spacing with the gigabyte board.
im sure i am doing something wrong and was hoping for a bit of guidance

-thank you in advance for any help

You're.. using a Q9650 for 2070s SLI..? What?

You're better off just going with a single card. SLI is very much gone with the wind.

i expect i will hear this alot but i enjoy a challenge
Don't get me wrong, I loved running SLI/xfire but honestly it's not worth it in the end.

i hate to give up on it, i'm sure it can do better. right now i am playing gtaV in sli and both gpus are getting 25-30% usage, it plays this game very smooth- probably can get more out of it still. i will be picking up a gsync acer predator monitor , tuesday its supposed to be in at best buy

Won't do better on a Q9650 for sure.

4x2gb pc2 6400 ocz sli ready memory

LOL!

Is this memory windows 7 ready too?... :D

Edit:
@adamdoyle2000

I'm running a i7 12700K with a single 2070 Super, I see 98~100% GPU usage with GTA V.

I play at 1440p 165Hz, getting 120~165fps (G-Sync-V-Sync) with GTA V.

i am running windows 10, i did think it might be a good idea to streamline to ubuntu or something. do you think i could get better performance from windows 7? i wouldnt mind XP either as long as it will play directx11 and get into steam

I understand your desire for a challenge, and for that reason it's a good scenario (in terms of a challenge), I would be very interested to see your FPS and system power usage with a Q9650 in SLI compared to the same with a single 2070, I suspect using the single card with that CPU would at least equal the FPS of the 2 cards together quite possibly for less power consumption ......... dunno would be interesting to see.

i will have to try and get some screen shots together. i had been thinking about getting a mining adapter for psu as i have a extra modular one laying around not getting used. figure it would help greatly with performance. i could try to split the load between the two, run one card of of each and maybe some other stuff

It was a thing for a while - very silly, but I had a kit. Black heat spreaders with little SLI badges.

It won't make a bit of difference with performance. That CPU will starve a single 2070, you're never getting a significant improvement with two.

Vast majority of games do not support SLI and new ones most definitely don't, it's basically a dead feature. Whatever problems you have with SLI they wont ever get fixed and it will get worse and worse, good luck ever sorting out your issues.

Sell one of the 2070s and buy a newer platform, I am not joking, this is by far the best course of action here.

Even crossfire is a PITA. Got two 5700XT's to work in benchmarks but as soon as a game came up it was belly up.

id rather hack a supposed dead tech than let game and gpu developers bully me into buying the next best thing. just today i have managed to get both cards to process in the 50% range just by using an older version of profile inspector. this is telling me it can all be worked around if someone knew enough and cared to put in the work. i was hard pressed to find the original profile 2.30 and ended up with 2.3.0.1.3 id like to use the earlier version and see if its better.
as it is now i don't need to play any other fps games than battlefield 5 which supposedly supports sli. i like the game alot and with the recent flop of 2042 the servers are full enough to enjoy. there are plenty of sli titles i have never played i can revisit and get all of the enjoyment out of this setup.

What you have to do is look for the last Crossfire driver from AMD. Unfortunately you may get Games not wanting to launch if the Driver is not supported.

so i would be using crossfire to run the nvidia cards? will i still have to run sli auto since the motherboard isn't nvidia certified? did later crossfire drivers support sli or something?

Crossfire is not going to work on NVIDIA cards.. no idea where this came from.

No.. no no no..

No.. no no no..
I was referencing the Driver for Multi GPU it would be the same with Nvidia

Then say NVIDIA? The older SLI drivers might not even work with a lot of games due to required features or fixes.

is this DX11 or DX12?

Have you tried disabling ULPS in the registry? That's often a problem when running SLI or CFX.

Regardless yeah that old intel platform is huge bottleneck.
