Problems with the latest Windows 10 - 20h2

LOL - A bit touchy today, huh?

Please dont respond
It's funny how some feel free to express their opinions and concerns in one breath then attempt to suppress others from doing the same in the next when they expressing something different. Oh well.

for well over 30 years
Well, I never worked in Spain, but did live and work IT support in the UK, Germany, Portugal (The Azores) for many years and of course, the US for most of my life. As for your 30 years, well I won't hold your obvious youth and lack of experience against you. ;) I will just say while I believe my home, network and computers are sufficiently safe and secured against all threats (except, maybe a determined Mother Nature - I live in Tornado Alley ), I would never temp fate by claiming no one will break into my house. But hey! That's me.

And speaking of staying safe, I do hope all here are staying safe - and COVID free. We are all in this together and will - eventually - beat it. If we work together, that is.

The guy just gave us a friendly heads up about potential trouble upgrading to Windows 10 20H2.
He didn't need a lecture about managing his own passwords.

I did say i wont respond , but ive seen enough of your post to tell your a condescending know it all, enough said, laters Mr Big Stuff!

Or as i do save passwords to a csv, but you dont expect to loose all passwords on a update

I save all my passwords in an encrypted xlsx and don't save anything in the browser. I don't want anyone that can sit at my computer to be able to just log into whatever they want. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive because I've had someone break into my home and steal my computer and that made me learn my lesson about saving passwords in the browser.

Well i did neglect to say my passwords are saved on and encrypted usb drive... silly me :) didnt realize my whole "lifes" security measures were going to be put under a high powered microscope, lol

I haven't been able to update none of this years big updates. Might be Avast, that messes things up... Atleast it's working. :D :D
When I had frequent problems upgrading W10 frequent new versions I discovered through trial and error it was Avast preventing it, necessitating a clean install every time. Turning it off made no difference. Uninstalling it did. I've had no problems with Windows Defender or with Bitdefender ever since.

Gee whiz. Chill dude. It was not a personal attack. Note newtekie1's reply right under yours - which you liked, BTW.

Im chilled Dude thanks :) very chilled , you publicly insulted me ("lack of experience" your words not mine) and want the last word on the thread, as stated i was just trying to state what happened to my update of Windows.
You derailed my thread to polish your ego with your supposed superior knowledge of all things IT and Computers and belittled my lack of knowledge.
As @95Viper said lets keep it on topic and try not to insult people eh? oh and chill ya bones...
Peace

:( It was a joke! Did you see the ;) ("wink") smilie? It was a joke - paraphrased from President Reagan from many years ago. Sorry you took it as a personal insult. It sure was not meant that way. If anything, it just means I'm old.

So with things being taken so personally, I personally apologize to you and the rest of the members.

And to Viper too - and I'm done here.

Well Mr Bright your a super happy soul aren't you! Just FYI no one will break into my house , i would explain but im sure you will pick holes in that, no one uses my computer except me, but again im sure you will find some obscure answer for this as well, im happy with my security which is what i think your implying.
I am well aware of the many security issues which you mention, im also a well versed computer engineer who has studied and worked in the UK and Spain ( for well over 30 years now)
Each to there own, as i mentioned this was just a " heads up " as to what happened to me when i did an update from 2004 to 20h2.
Please dont respond, as i wont after this.....

Relax, that is just Mr. Bright's brand of advisory caution in his own way, as did you. As per my experience in this forum, he has been the one of the most, if not the most helpful person to advise me & his experience & knowledge has always been appreciated.
And we all are & should be grateful to you for the heads-up, as well. While I don't use Edge personally, many others here do. So on behalf of others, I extend my gratitude to you, Hugis. Thank You....:love::toast:

Hi,
lol yeah an acquired taste

Two things I noticed with 20h2.

One.... My AMD rigs take forever to update to it, while my Intel rigs take it like a champ in seconds.

Two... It broke superpi on AMD, to the tune of 3 minutes longer to make the 32m runs, with no change to my Intel system completion times.

The 3rd thing being it's not available yet ;)
It's only on the insider/beta channel.

Odd, I signed up for neither. Found it under optional updates.

Windows update offered it to me on all 3 of my desktops... had one that the desktop icons dissappeared and had to re-install some Edge extensions.

It also showed up for me on all of the 2004 boxes I had, and it's what you download direct from MS if you use the media creation tool.

What is this Edge thing you guys keep talking about? :D

I too got H2 on my laptop. It was baked into previous update, so available to activate when they collected enough info thought we were ready for it.

Showed up as a optional feature update a week/two weeks ago. It’s a staggered roll out as always. I was disappointed Chromium Edge was installed since I rarely use any of the Microsoft web browsers since IE6.
