There is a program my friend uses to write his own music, I forget the name but I was wondering if any of you know of a good program to do that sort of thing.

Sony Sound Forge, Adobe Audition.

Then there's open source Audacity .

You mean record, or transfer notes to sound or vice versa? I use a nice little free app to record called audacity.

I mean like notes and stuff.. something like garageband if any of you know what that is.. but for windows

sound forge and adobe auditions

auditions is easier to use but sound forge is a lot more powerful of an app

Audacity fits that bill. Try google.

Can you also print out the sheets of music? I have audacity I never knew it could do the notes thing.. I'll have to go look around for it

Cubase, Fruity Loops, and Reason are all very good sequencer/instrument apps...these can also interface with any device with a midi port (ext music keyboard for example)

Audacity is ok, just got to learn it, which is a pita

How about PowerTab or Guitar Pro? Those are pretty easy to use and make some nice music with. It's got tons of different sounds other than guitar too :)

AFAIK Audacity can't convert to sheet music notes.. Try Finale if you want to write to sheet music
