Not worth it. There are a bunch on eBay from China for less than $5, although they may be rich with lead, be junk or never arrive (they all had 3+ weeks shipping). I did not want to take the risk .
I left my slim on its side and it was fine although a bump could knock it over much easier than my 60gb which was solid. Now it is horizontal only b/c it looks better in my setup like that.

Im not sure about PS3 but I never put a system up vertically. I had my 360 vertical and I took it apart to put new thermal paste in and found that it ALL ran off the die and HS onto the board and was scorching hot. I never will put a system like that again if its made to sit horizontal.

Yes, its just easier to tip over. Mine was behind the TV, never had a problem.
