Apparently I punished myself on one of my side projects, and decided to overclock the two things that should not go together: An EVGA 750i FTW motherboard and a Q9450. The 9450 isn't the most O/C friendly cpu in the world to begin with. Added to what is not a beginner's O/C board, and it's frustration.
So, with the amount of volts needed to reach a stable 3.2Ghz (1.33v per CPU-z), and higher volts on the already hot NB nearby, the Zalman CNPS9500AT has a hard time keeping up. Idle temps are between 43 and 48 soon after boot. However, the bigger issue are load temps and idle temps AFTER full load.
On full load, the cores vary between 65 and 69. This cooler never seems to be able to bring temps down after. They are usually idling (around ten minutes after) between 52 and 57. That's a really high idle, as it doesn't leave much overhead. Part of it may be that I only have 1 exhaust fan and 3 intake fans, so there is a heat buildup (adding one more exhaust fan to top this weekend), but I also think the cnps9500 is inadequate.
I've been doing alot of reading of reviews, and I am very much thinking to get the Xigmatex Dark Knight II Night Hawk Edition. How much better do you think it will cool than the 9500? Does anyone have personal experince with that cooler on a Q9450?
Thanks in advance to any thoughts you send my way!
