Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. today announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Mobile Platform to amplify immersive experiences and bring premium performance to consumers' everyday life. The upgraded platform delivers across-the-board advancements to ignite on-device AI, fan-favorite mobile gaming, a creativity-charged camera and powerful 5G connectivity. The new platform is fully equipped to enable exciting new use-cases including up to 2.63 GHz peak CPU speeds, over 50% faster GPU performance, and 60% improved AI performance per watt while still delivering incredible power efficiency.

"Intelligently designed to balance performance and power efficiency, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Mobile Platform delivers a selection of premium experiences that are brand new to the Snapdragon 7-series," said Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "By working closely with our OEM partners, we're able to help make the next generation of in-demand features, such as enhanced AI and extraordinary camera capabilities, more widely accessible to consumers." Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 will first be adopted by key OEMs including HONOR and vivo with the first device expected to be announced this month.

It seems to me that only Chinese brands (ironically) use these Qualcomm mid-end SOCs, for some reason (maybe costs) the most popular brands in the west prefer to use Mediatek or their own SOCs (Samsung and Google).

Which is quite annoying, as some of these chips are pretty decent, but near enough impossible to find in a decent device.

As the saying goes: "Money talks, Bullshit walks" :D

Western mfgr's will do literally anything & everything they can to shave a few pennies off their BOM's, but then turn around & charge buyers an arm, leg, kidney & left testicle/mammary for their products...

Ah...capitalism 101 at it's finest !

Is that really what we need in a phone?...
I know, same thing with laptops, they're claiming AI is in every new laptop, and yet when I read the description, I can't actually ascertain how these AI features are ACTUALLY helping average consumers.

If anyone can, for example, explain to me what the AI features in a new Zen4 laptop do in regular language for your average consumer, I'd really appreciate it.

It's used even when taking photos

These mid-tier SOCs are just too good, it's almost like previous gen top-tier performance, and those or even the previous ones, were already overpowered for a smartphone

A good use for this performance would be a desktop mode on that run desktop O.S(Ubuntu, Win10), so the smartphone can be used directly as a computer(like Samsung Dex, but actually good), like a Macbook M series; like the next Windows devices with ARM SOC(Qualcomm X Elite). That's it. Native, on a device with decent cooling, even if the sustained performance it's like an Intel i3, it's more than enough for many. Is that too much to ask?

Yup, I might buy a new phone sometime next year and I'm not really going lower than a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 for example in Poco F5. 'That phone ticks all my needs/preferences pretty much but maybe by the time I do buy a new one there will be more global models/options with this chip'
Which is still somewhat affordable for me and it would be a pretty big upgrade over my Realme 8 4G 6/128 with a Helio G95 in it.

Don't get me wrong for everyday casual use even my current phone is plenty enough for me but I'm one of those ppl who do play games on a phone every now and then.:slap: 'Also playing mobile games on my PC if they have a PC client'

The only thing that prevented me from replacing my F3 with an F5 is the steady worsening of band support for my area. 7G2 is a beast, and no doubt 7G3 should be as well (50% GPU uplift!!!). I love 8G2 in my S23, but I miss ArrowOS.

Even with F5 as new as it is, the ROM scene is already in full swing as is expected from Xiaomi.

If 8+ Gen 1 didn't occupy the niche it did this year slotting in below 8G2 (late release flagship killers), I think 7G2 would have gotten the adoption that it deserves. Snapdragon 7 has really turned into the practical flagship line.

Luckily I don't really have the band support issue where I live and the global versions sold in my country work with pretty much no problems.
I don't usually buy phones in the higher up performance/price range so having this kind of performance from the 7G2 is definitely a positive thing for me. 'and it would easily last my usual ~3 year upgrade cycle or more'

Sadly Realme's newer models with Snapdragon 7 are yet to be launched globally so the current options are indeed limited but I will check around for sure when its time for my upgrade.:) 'I do like the Realme UI/OS so I wouldn't mind staying with it if I could but for now F5 looks like the best deal for me + I fancy that white version:oops:'

I think I made a mistake.........it looks like 7 Gen 3 is intended to slot in below 7+ Gen 2? The actual slides seem to depict the 15%/50% uplift as in relation to 7 Gen 1, not 7+ Gen 2. We all know 7 Gen 1 was itself basically a worthless rebranding of 778G/780G-level products.

There was a later announced gimped/shitty midrange chipset (7s Gen 2) fabbed on Samsung - 7 Gen 3 looks to be around that level of performance, not a successor to 7+ Gen 2.

these are for cheap devices

i'd rather see the snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in a $500 phone with one camera before i stepped down in the SoC

Yeah, Qualcomm screwed up their naming here and the 7 Gen 3 slots in between the 7s Gen 2 and the 7+ Gen 2.
