Question about (VRR) Variable Refresh Rate

I have a question about Variable Refresh Rate that I’m hoping someone can answer for me.
I recently hooked up a PS5 to a Sony X95J that has been updated to support VRR. I know what VRR is and how it works, but when you activate it, it locks you into the Game Mode video setting on the TV. What does that mean if you want to watch a 4K Movie Disk on the PS5? If it locks you out of Custom or Cinema Video modes, are you supposed to constantly turn VRR off to regain control of those locked out Video options? If so, do you deactivate VRR in the PS5 options, the TV’s Options, or both? Or am I totally wrong and maybe the PS5 unlocks the Video options when it detects the presence of a Movie Disk rather than a game disk?
Please, if anyone can help shed some light on this for me it would be very much appreciated.

It sounds like it locks the display in a game mode if VRR is on, you should deactivate it when watching movies unless the quality is fine like that. Also you can check if it’s on or not in the menu of the display.

From what i've read games activate the VRR and game mode, videos do not - they try and lock to the static refresh rate (24P for BD) and don't activate the game mode

Online streaming may be different, but it should be the same at 60Hz
