Question for users of the R5 5600x(stock/OC)

If I were to buy a new PC I was looking to wait till DDR5 came out with Alder Lake. However, with Intel CPUs having a downward spiral of high power consumption + only minimal gains in performance over older generations, it's time to consider other options.

My current CPU is a i5 4690K. So I am not that aware about the newer generation Intel/AMD CPUs.
As far as I am aware, the gaming i5 CPUs(xx600Ks) that I want to get are 6-core - the 10600K and 11600K.
But today I found out that the Ryzen 5 5600X - which is also a 6-core 12-thread CPU - only consumes 67 watts of power at full load on stock clocks!

I mean, I get power consumption which doesn't require an aftermarket air/water cooler, with performance comparable to current i5s and 6 cores! It's the holy grail of perf/temp for me.

So, real users of the 5600X - I am asking you: do you really get these numbers when you are running the 5600X? What does CoreTemp/RealTemp report? How much is the max temp and power consumption on full load? Does it perform on par with the i5 10600K/11600K?

Stock the 5600X uses about 76W max during Cinebench etc. If you run 5600X and 10600K\11600K stock with 3200 ram then 5600X will be faster i most games and apps. If you overclock them max and remove powerlimit for 10600K\11600K and tune ram 10600K will still be slower, but 11600K would be on pair performancewise, but consumption is much higher for the Intel parts.

In games the difference will be lower, but still the 5600X will consume less power while performing better.

I have a BeQuiet dark rock slim cooler and typically in games with +200PBO I get temps around 60-70C, but my cooler is not that good.

I will be overclocking the CPU as long as it's not going to be a power hog(looking at you, Skylake+ Intels!) and not get too hot.

I have my 4690k at 4.3GHz and stock voltage. Consumes about 100W max.

The most gain you get from ram. Get a descent kit like the ripjaws 4000cl17 or viper blackout 4400cl18 and you can run your ram at 3800cl15 tuned. That will give you up to 20% more fps i games that are cpu limited. Using pbo and curve optimizer gives you 200-300MHz faster cpu at same temp/power and gives you about 5% better performance. Unlike a regular OC it will downclock to 3.7GHz@850mv when idle or very low loads. No need for watercooling on 5600X, BUT get a descent cooler like Arctic esport 34 duo for budget or Noctua D15 if you want yo spent a bit more.

I have a similar one - DeepCool Gammaxx 400 v2 - but I am satisfied with it. The major gain I got was using Conductonaut on the CPU die rather than with a beefy aftermarket cooler. Using any thermal paste(AS5, Arctic MX-4, Noctua NT-H1, ...) on the die was simply not doing the job.
Good thing the AMDs have Indium solder on the die rather than thermal paste.

Nope. A total monster and too expensive for me. I don't like beefy air coolers - the most I'd be willing to do is a Noctua NH-U12S - I'd rather go with an AIO watercooler.
 
Watercooling works fine too, but overkill for 76W :) The gammax 400 will be fine for +200 pbo and curve optimizer :)
 
With the current market being so crazy who knows what will happen to prices but just bear in mind that 5000xt was announced today.

Even if you don't plan on getting one it might drive the price of the 5600x down or we could have a massive shortage and all components turn out like gpu's

Yeah, ipc is better on 5600X. Actual allcore is around 4.3-4.4 on 5609X stock so it's even worse for 11600K. With pbo+CO -30 you get around 4.6 allcore on 5600X giving it another 5%.

Are frequencies on Intel and AMD CPUs comparable? In the days of the 8350x or earlier AMD CPUs had insane frequencies and were STILL slower than Intel i5s IPC-wise. Now it's the opposite apparently.

Well.. my 5900X running SuperPi 32M @ 5150MHz is a little quicker than a 6GHz 8700K..

Apparently it doesn't anymore(courtesy of Linpack Xtreme v1.1.5).

Those TDP ratings are lies. I thought this cooler was rated for 150W!

Erm AMD K5, K6, K7, K8 were all lower frequency than intel chips and whooped them.

Are frequencies on Intel and AMD CPUs comparable? In the days of the 8350x or earlier AMD CPUs had insane frequencies and were STILL slower than Intel i5s IPC-wise. Now it's the opposite apparently.
Whats funny is core i5s are obsolete of that era and the FXs are not when it comes to gaming performance, oh the tables have turned.

Watercooling has more uses than just high tdp chips especially when you consider environmental factors and case layout.

I have a 3600x that is thermal throttling badly due to ambient temps on even medium loads and need to run Air conditioning to game at all on a baby Rx 570 in a sff case. Sadly due to import restrictions and case restrictions I am unable to plumb a custom loop at this time.
I could use a larger case but what's the point in swapping cases when I want to take a flight to visit my family. So next time I goto the UK my little mediocre system will be fitted with all the watercooling it allows in the hope the temp difference with water subsidies temp spikes when my system runs 60+c on idle. Also it looks cool ;)

Absolute, some cases and enviroments works better with AIO even with a low TDP CPU, but in many cases you get more bang for your bucks with a good compact air cooler :)
 
I happy CPU is a colder one...

With the Ninja 5 you do not even need to worry about fan curve
