hi guys, im building a system for my cousin, watercooled. it is having triplefan radiator (maybe more), probably 1/2 in tubing, an overclocked core2duo, etc.
im using a 8800gts but waterblocks are very expensive for it and i was wondering whether i could get away with using a universal GPU waterblock and using zalman heatsinks on the memory/MOSFETs, with a fan blowing across it? would this keep it cool enough or should i just go for a full blown block that cools everything?
cheers

That sounds fine to me but I spose I should ask "cool enough for what"? Mine overclocked to max still runs pretty cool with the Gainward stock cooling and never exceeds 58C full load, and that is with the VMem pencil mod giving me some extra voltage.

i want to build him a very fast but SILENT system (like my own but faster:cool:)
therefore, watercooling of the cpu, chipset and vga is in order. i want to clock the nuts off the cpu (either a e6230 or e6600) but not necessarily the vga, but it would be nice to have the ability.
however, i have heard that the 8800gts needs good cooling for the memory and the mosfets, which is why they are actively cooled as stock. given that the stick-on memsinks arnt as good as a properly applied stock cooler, im wondering whether i should just go for the whole cooling block. is there any other option for cooling memory than zalman?

also, the cpu block: i might skimp here and buy an alphacool neXXos light, instead of the swiftech apogee i wanted. is the neXXos any good?

thanks

:( come on... want help here.

ive got another question now: what pumps should i be looking at? i wanted the laing D5 but its a bit expensive. what pumps are thee that are powerful (400 litres/min at least) and completely silent?
again, i would appreciate advice.

Gotta love Swiftech's bang-for-the-buck. I'm planning on one for my 2900, when I get the money.

Benchmark Scores It does boot up? I think.
If you're going with MCW60 for the 8800 serie card remember the stock mounting doesn't work. You'll need the G80 mounting kit.
Or a hack job like my block. ;)
is the neXXos any good?
NexXxos XP is still on par the top blocks especially with IHSless CPUs - it's not as good as D-Tek FuZion or Apogee GT(X) for IHS' but it's still quite a performer with monolithic CPUs (non-QCs). The down side is it's quite restrictive and requires a pump with high head pressure like Laing DDC (= Swiftech MCP350) and up. D5 doesn't offer anything over DDC2 (MCP355) other than higher power consumption and noise.

For an 8800 GTS, I'd go for a Swiftech MCW 60 or D-Tek Fuzion (you'd need a strong pump for the latter though). However, remember, watercooling won't bring you much unless you volt mod... the 8800 series is really voltage limited.

As far as pump choices go, how about the MCP-655B? It's like $75, its essentially the D5 without speed control.

Agreed, nice piece of kit (the D-Tek Fuzion....was reading a review of it the other day), also, correct me if I am wrong.......the 8800GTS stocks at 1.3V on the GPU and is limited to a max of 1.4V even with a voltmod, am thinking of getting mine done next weekend.

I do beleive with the modest voltage increase that the voltmod will bring that stock cooling could prob handle it with 100% fan, at the moment on max overclock mine does not go above the mid 50'sC.
