Can someone help me because i need to know what i can do to make my pc run smoother and faster. I have an ASUS P48X-MX Motherboard with 2x512 of kingston. I have an intel pentium 4 2.6ghz northwood, and a nvidia ge-force 6600. Please help.................... -Joker72
 
Any particular area you want to run faster? Your system is outdated, so you could certainly upgrade the hardware. A core 2 duo w/ a new board and ram will get everything moving quicker. Running things like defragmentation, tweaking, and registry cleaner programs regularly will keep windows snappy.
 
Being you are in the overclocking section, I can only assume it is on your mind. Does the mobo you own have bios options to aid in overclocking, or do you need an app to do it for you?
 
Ah congrats on the new position sneeky. :toast: We got mods abound in these last couple days. I guess I should have looked to see what section we was in before making suggestions. :banghead:

it has CPU HOST FREQUENCY, DRAM VOLTAGE, and DRAM FREQUENCY in BIOS what ever those mean
 
ive tried clockgen, and that doesnt work because i cant get the right PLL but, i need to use the BIOS if im gonna overclock
 
i want my pc ro run better during games, browsing the internet, etc.
 
No option for CPU voltage increase?

CPU host I think is FSB
Dram voltage is memory voltage
Dram frequency is the speed of the ram.

My assumtion here would be to dirsct you towards an OC'ing app like Systool or if you have to use it Ntune.

I say read the stickies in the Oc section and get an idea of whats going on prior to just "having at it" and hoping all goes well. I used Systool back when I started on my 939 rig, taught me alot of what needs to go on with OCing.
 
i tried ntune, and my motherboard settings didnt show up, and i tried systool and i dont know what to set my clock generator to in cpu settings

If your having problems simply browsing the internet, I would suggets it is time for a good clean up of windows. Your pc should have no problems with stuff like that.

As was suggested earlier by farlex, using ccleaner, defrag or a full reinstall of windows.

Overclocking will get the most out of what's there, but you don't want to be towing a caravan full of unnecessary crap as well.

Personally I do a full reinstall every six months, I simply reload the first image of my hard disk after xp install and mobo drivers. This keeps windows and browsing nice a crisp.

Then look to get more out of your system for gaming with overclocking.
