http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-6768-view-AMD-RV870-with-1000-stream-processors-and-1.5-teraflops.html Not sure where their info comes from but they're usually right on the specs. So any guess as to what will be coming out first in December? 5870 or 5850? Last year I think the 3870 came first, but at the next cycle they did the 4850 first. I'm planning on getting a 5870 and using my current GTS 1024 for physics. As long as they switch back to hardware control for the 2d/3d modes the news cards should be near perfect all around.

HD 5870 smegma?

1000 stream processors w/ 3.6 GHz mem. Holy f***. Know anything about price.

The current HD 4870 has 3.6ghz vram at stock speeds. 900x4(qdr) = 3600! They mention something about 5000!

Depending on how this all goes i might be looking into picking up a fancy 5870 or 5870x2. I might wait until i find a single card that does crysis dx10 ultra quality 1650x1080 with 8xaa 16xaf.

Hmm, toughie to make any speculation based on that, but it's not entirely surprising, and given the time frame between R700s and the beginning of next year, I can't see them pumping out something with any real architectural changes - A)Because of the previously mentioned time period and B)Because there's nothing developers are doing with graphics that require it.

Personally I think their going to use it to try and gain some more foot holding in the GPU market. I just hope they don't start to abandon the 4XXX series, because the new cards could turn out to be similar to the Nvidia G80-G92 scenario.

I'm all for re-hashing, even if it's only in the slightest, but GPU designers have a long ways to go in managing scaling issues and etc. If a 4870 X2 had the proper support, based on it's horsepower, it should be able to survive any 3d application until the beginning of 2010. As it is now, it struggles to shine in 80% of the popular games out there, and when it does, it's still being limited by lack of driver support.

ive not got the best card out there atall... but for the last couple of months, ive been able to play everything (includuing crysis) on my 24" screen in 1920X1200....on an HD4870

so... actually untill a game comes that needs this... like actually needs this much power on the rig i have... im fine... gonna sit back and enjoy the "ÂŁ220 i spent on my HD4870....

Same here mate. Probably gonna skip the next generation of GPUs. Extremely happy with my 4870, can play anything maxed out at 1680x1050. Maybe I'm naive but I kinda thought that graphics cant get much better and that my 4870 would last 4evaaaaar! Wishful thinking, when Crysis 3 comes out I'mma need to put my kidney's on ebay to buy a HD 9870 lol.

40mm, 1000 stream processor, 4800Mhz memory and you guessed it... Same stock cooler! ;)

I want a 5870x2:D

Any pictures out yet?

I think the next gen of card will have a crazy amount of shaders, cos according to Wiz's findings the FPS rises linearly to SP count (in 4830 review, too drunk to find it :p)

I hope teh 5870's wil have at least 1200 shaders. The VRAM speed id good enough at the minute I reckon, 3.6 GHz is mental.

BTW ATI FTW LOLZORZ! :toast:

@op

you cant have 2 vid drivers with your os sry :slap:

Should be interesting. Just think how much performance gain we saw going from 3xxx to 4xxx series cards. I hope we see the same kinda of performance jump this time around.

Didn't that article just say it won't even reach production until first quarter of 2009?

2000! :D I want something near/better than a 4870x2. My next card is definitely going to be a 5000 series.

wait a minute, if this is true the the HD4XXX series prices will drop a good bit as a result:rockout:

Good point! Crossfire 4870 X2 anyone? :D

Thought they were doing something to fix that... or that someone at least had come up with a work around.

Only just now are HD3xxx prices coming down... so don't hold your breathe.

i know what im getting

i hope they use a bigger bus this time.

I doubt they will, I think they decided that 512 was overkill especially for the 2900xt but I do wonder how a 512bit bus would perform on 4870 or 4870 x2

i think the bus is really limiting the memory.. as the ram is suppossed to perform better then what it has been doing for the HD4 series.

yeah I'm sure the the gddr5 could use a little more breathing room...who knows maybe they will have like a 384bit bus or something?

ehh... i suspect that they purposely bottlenecked the hd4 series so that they could kill with the hd5 series.. because the hd4 series had an additional edge that helped it sell much more, and so they limited it.
