Radeon HD 6870 PCB and GPU Pictured

from what we kno so far, your actually incorrect on that statement(the bold). the Juniper core is to stay and become the HD 67XX series(rebadge). Barts fills the gap between 5850 and 5770, which only has the 5830.....which is just a sad product price/perf wise.

This still isn't confirmed by the way.

It was a rumour with no source to start with and still is.

didn't kno it didn't have a source. Though it doesn't sound too far fetched. If juniper got a tune-up like the RV770(4870>4890) then it would still fit in AMD's line up just fine with a decent jump in clocks based on the assumed HD 68XX perf level.

haven't heard much on the tessellation front, i'm hoping they have done something there to up the tessellation though. Even though theres no real demand for it yet, the one thing that stands out is nvidias tessellated performance is better, comeon amd, change this! make amd king in all regards.

 Easy enough mistake to make, the source for the news story about it here was a link to a news post with no source.

At first I thought it was a cookie :D

Wow 230 vs 338 and yet almost as fast? There is a serious engineering behind this.
Respect.

i've run the benchmarks and your statement is not true

Oh great! that will be good news... Can't wait to see the actual review of all these...

Hell, I don't care what speed it is, as long as it competes on cost. If it's much cheaper than the 5870 was, that's what matters.

Why do you have to say something like that w1zz? Now the day is dragging because im constantly looking at the clock hoping the 22nd will get here fast.

I wish i could just get so drunk it seams like the 22nd is tomorrow as i will forget the next week  :toast:

fantasic to see it in the flesh, I bet AMD wanted that under wraps for as long as possible.

cant wait for the benchies :toast:

To be honest i think AMD would like all these leaks, the past weeks there has been so many articles on so many tech sites giving the kind of free press coverage every company should love, it's the same for any upcoming hardware from any company when it comes up to a product release i think.

I desperatly want to see some numbers from barts as i hope it will give an idea of what cayman could be like and help narrow my gpu upgrade options as right now i'm mainly considering 460 sli (although not a fan of muli gpu setups but needed for a triple monitor setup wih nvidia), 5870 or 6970.

numbers come next week. I expect more pics to pop up over the weekend ;)

I need to wait to july next year for my next upgrade (in fact entire system build) so chances are this is the series that will be in full swing/availiability around that time. who knows what the competition will be like.

7 days....i love GPU releases...exciting

I admit i'm in no real hurry as i think i will be sticking with the rest of my system untill both bulldozer and sandy bridge are out but i'm a bit of a whore when it comes to random upgrades, i have not upgraded anything in a while and i feel the itch so its time to plan my upcoming debt

Indeed! If 6850 is faster than 5850 and 6870 faster than 5870, where these things will be priced, it's going to be a solid win. This could possibly be AMD's "8800 GT".

I think AMD/ATi already had their 8800GT with the 5850, but time will tell! a 6870 could just be it!

hmmm idk that'd take one hell of a card. The 8800GT literally blew people away, i kno it did me. When it released the 8800GTX was every bit of $550, the GT could be had for $279 cheapest when released and was on average only 5-10% slower. Course the HD 6870 is expected to be dam close to 5870 perf for $249? compared to the 5870's lowest of $339, a nice price difference but not quite the diff the GT had over GTX. :P

ok so what i really should have said is that the 6850 will be competing with the likes of the nvidia 460's (and fill the gap around the 5770/5830), and the 6870 to compete against the likes of the 5850/5870.

This is what I had meant.

The 6870 is a mid-range performance card. I don't think we'll see a significant difference over the 5 series until we get into the 6900 series, as those are meant to be the top tier 5 series ''killers''.

But really, lets wait to see the benchmarks to really see what these cards can do.

maybe the pcb from chiphell was actually the unlcok version of barts and feature 6+8 power connector because right now neither barts xt or barts pro are full chip according to the spec of 1120sp and 960sp.
