Ive finally had the time to read up about ram tweaking & have overclocked my current ram to 250Mhz stable but the 1 question that im curious about is what performance benefits does increased memory bandwidth offer?

im not new to overclocking itself but i am new to tweaking memory.

so far I have dropped the timings down to 3-4-4-8. pretty bog standard timings usually seen on products more aimed towards the value select market then enthusiasts. I would tweak it a little more but im going away in the next 2 days so i cant really be botherd

what are the pros & cons of loosening/tightening up timings? asside from the obvious reasons like being able to overclock the memory past its factory speeds.

If anybody can spare the time to explain. thank you

It really depends on the application. If you're a benchmarker like me then every little bit helps. For normal, every day use then the differences might not be so noticable. Furthermore if you're not going for absolute highest clocks, then stability is more important anyway. What kind of memory do you have and are you using a s939 system?

system spec on the left hand tab & yes still 939 system

I would leave the timings at 2-2-2 and see how far she will go, the tighter the timings the better. ALLEN

all of your ram is TCCD which means push 2.9v set the timings to 3-4-4-8 and you can do 600mhz on them

seeing how your only at 250 try 3-3-3-8 if thats good 2.5-3-3-7 2.9-3v

you ram can go a lot higher trust me, my value ram can push 233 on 2.5/3/3/7 and thats using less volts then i should be i will do a screen shot later for your

3v is not recommended without active cooling!!

And I agree with Allen entirely, see how far you can go with 2-2-2-5. Going to 600Mhz and 3-4-4-8 won't give you anything beyond a bigger epeen. Getting 250 and 2-2-2-5 is much better.

he wont hit 250 @2-2-2-5 maybe 2.5-3-2-6 but not 2.0 CL ;) its TCCD not BH-5 or CE-5

ever thought of changing to 2t aswell performance is droped but you can see whats better for your system

not on s939 that will completely kill any gains form faster ram
