I had a i7 930 and running 6x2GB I had a hard time keeping my BCLK stable to maintain 4+Ghz. No issues with 3x4Gb though.

The CPU? FSB/BCLK? RAM?

Her 930 is running at 4Ghz, and I had issues with my BCLK keeping stability at 4.0+ Ghz with all 6 banks filled in. It also lowered my max OC on my CPU. I could no longer hit 4.3-4.4 and had to overvolt heavily to hit the same 4.0-4.1Ghz. You are putting a lot more load on the memory controller with all 6 banks filled and overclocked.

AND, due to the nature of how OCing works, in terms of Multiplier, she would not be able to run 4.0ghz anyway at 2134.8.
Her question was about ram.
I am not under-clocking.

Yea um running 3 sticks of ram on that, you are doing it a dis-service as its slower cause its running single channel mode. maybe it can run 2 of them in dual and 3rd in single but still.

If I'm not mistaken, there is no disservice being done...they were designed to run in tri-channel mode...it's not single channel.

You know? With that being triple-channel kit of PSC..
..One could probably get $60-$70 for it..
Then get 4gb sticks..=less stress on IMC..+less out-of-pocket.

The question is whether or not to get a triple-channel kit of same RAM,or get newer kit.

I voted for another kit of same..

but...If one was to sell tri-channel kit already owned for $60-$70..

even an 8gb kit would only be about $10 out of pocket.

..almost like free 2gb :eek:

The question has been answered but it's split: Get another 3x2 of those Mushkin Blackline PSC gems that Schmuckley excitedly identified, or sell them and get 3x4 for less strain on the IMC.

Some people think she should get faster RAM, but that's not what BP wants...she simply wanted advice on double the RAM thru filling all 6 slots, or double it with 3 slots and larger RAM size.

I think we are awaiting her to decide from the advice given that is actually germane to her question.

Considering @Black Panther hasn't responded to her own thread yet. I think we should wait until this question gets answered, because if it's just a capacity problem, then faster memory is just extra cost (unless it's on sale or something).
