There's also a interesting quirk with GPU overclock that has a postive/negative effect on the CPU overclock.

Woah, wait a moment ... You mean they finally reached what their concurrent achieved as performance level since the RPi 1 ? (Ok ok... RPi are made in UK and not China or Korea.... Even if the later is a tad better than the prior ) now if only they didn't reused the Videocore IV... Furthermore 100mhz slower than the same in the 3rd iteration....

Nonetheless too much software hiccups for a start .. but nice they keep the price at same level

I think I keep my quad A53 @ 1.5 + Mali 450mp5

New GPU as well, VideoCore VI compared to the older IV. Tom's bungled their spec sheet table in the review.
Tom's said:
The GPU is getting a nice boost too. It moves from a Broadcom VideoCore IV that operated at a core clock speed of 400 MHz to a VideoCore VI that’s set at 500 MHz.

Edit: Here's the data sheet - https://www.raspberrypi.org/documen...ypi/bcm2711/rpi_DATA_2711_1p0_preliminary.pdf

Thanks for the reply, seems like I misread, ok Videocore VI but seemingly just as bad in video replay (UHD and HD) compared to a Mali 450 (which is not a new one ) or even compared to a T627 (Asus Tinkerboard, more recent)
It's looking like they pushed the hardware out before the OS was ready. The hardware video decode acceleration for 4K is software based at the moment, and screen resoultion is limited to 1080P. OpenGL 3D acceleration is working in the Raspbian OS. Some software/firmware updates later, and I'd imagine everything will be sorted out. You can toggle a config setting to boot off of USB so with 3.0 on board you can plug in a SSD to get around the slow Micro SD slot.

Meanwhile the concurrent have EMMC onboard or in add-ons
