READ BEFORE POSTING!! The Rules of this Forum

Can we have this idea ratified by another forum moderator/Uber Mod/Wiz?

yes it's fine as long as there is still a normal picture for dont want to go to yt just to see an item, and the video shows a paper with the name (no editing). and the main purpose of the video is to promote the sale, i'll make an exception if you show the product in your strip club with naked girls dancing around

brb...

//goes to bank for stack of 1 dollar bills

Sweet, forget eBay!

w1zz has given the go ahead, so this is just my opinion.

youtube videos only (which w1zz says is a no no) would result in less sales - because people wouldnt view them. i'm not going to waste my limited bandwidth to check them, and i can bet many people would have slow internet and not be bothered - youtube videos are also low quality, and a static picture gives you a far better chance to examine the items)

Due to requests and logic, everything has been merged to clean up the sticky mess atop this forum. Thank you for your continuing cooperation following our guidelines and making Techpowerup! a safe and reliable place to sell, trade and buy your items. As always if anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to contact any moderator for assistance.

Thank you. :toast:

I would NOT send money as a gift though. If you have a dispute with money sent and put a claim to Paypal saying the items weren't received or not as described they can say "Items? What items? This was a gift payment, DENIED." I'm pretty sure it perfectly sidesteps what little recourse you have getting your money back with Paypal and actually this has been a method scammers have used (convincing you to send as a gift payment).

Yes! I feel that this statment should be repeated to make sure everyone see's it. I am glad TPU finally made the "no gift payment" rule. I was sending gift payments all the time before I found out about this small loophole. Most other forums already have this rule because it has caused problems for others. I want to say thank you to the mods here at TPU for making the FS section that much safer for all of us.:)

What about if some people showed their face? Personally I used video for my latest FS.

I'm not speaking for W1zzard, but your face does not equal "strip club with naked girls dancing around." If by strange chance it does. CALL ME! :pimp:

The rule is not in place because the forums decide it, it is in place because public request of Paypal gift for items violates Paypal's Terms of Service. It's above their heads and if they allowed it, Paypal might drop a flaming bionic flying elbow on our heads. Just like asking for extra money to cover Paypal fees.

I think that the gift idea is okay if one has dealt with another member in the past, or the person selling, and the person buying items are a known good up standing member. If one does not know the other party, and has not done a deal with that person in the past, then I think neither party should accept, or request the gift option.

Well if we can't ask for GIFT payments, what about Personal->Personal Payment Owed? Still no fees, although I do believe there is still no buyer protection. I do not think that violates ToS, since buying something from someone does technically constitute a payment owned, no? :D :D

It should be kept to PM's, technically it's illegal (according to PayPal's revised ToS) to ask for payments as gifts.

Edit: Don beat me to it. :p

all these 'fee free' methods are dodgy, because you cant get a refund if the seller tries to rip you off.

Here's what I do:

1) Act stupid and don't cover the fees unless the seller asks me to.
2) If 1 happens then I'll
---a. Pay the extra if I don't know the seller.
---b. Send it as a personal payment if I'm on good terms with the seller.
3) If I know the guy (well) then I'll send it as a personal payment the first time around.

It's not dodgy, because that's not what that service is there for. It's not for buyers/sellers.

If Paypal doesn't get their cut, they don't give a fu.........dge.:D

If you sell "goods" mark it as goods. Any other way is dishonest and quite frankly a bit shady. If you don't like paying the fee, mark your prices up. Instead of charging $40 bucks for something, charge $42. This is the correct way to do it. You cannot ask on this forum to do it any other way via PayPal.

i'm not talking about paypal. i'm talking about sellers that insist upon that method.

If i see a seller wants it done via gift, i'll refuse to buy from them. that fee is there to cover the buyers arse.

It's not allowed. Asking for gift payments in a thread isn't going to happen here.

i know its not allowed. i was replying to theonedubs post where he suggested an alternate method for doing the same thing.

I never demand that a payment be sent gift- I understand that its easy to be robbed and not everyone is comfortable with it.

The main reason I had preferred gift in the past is because I prefer not to have the buyer pay fees. I used to use a credit card to fund PP and they charge fees, but as a buyer I usually opted to cover the fees myself. My goal was to keep $$ in our pockets and not PayPal's, so if you feel comfortable with the seller or buyer you guys could save the fees. $2 is almost a gallon of gas :D

No big deal, I'm more impressed that the front page is no longer cluttered with all those FAQs, more real estate for our threads

EDIT, erocker, thanks for taking care of it for me in my thread :P

It's 3AM and I literally just tried to make a thread in a thread....

Is heatware really required? What if you don't have it?

Yes heatware really is required. If you don't have it then make an account and collect some feedback for your first sale. If nothing else it makes it harder for people to impersonate you on other forums.

PayPal
Many members use PayPal service as a means to make monetary transactions. This is fine, however you cannot ask for "gift payments" for items being sold. This is against PayPal's terms of service and such transactions on this forum will not be allowed.

This. I hate when people ask for gift payments. Seriously... are you that worried over a few dollars?
