Recent File List

for the tweakers out there, In programs like Paint and Flash Stand Alone- is there a command that can be implemented into the registry to stop Recent File List History from displaying on the File Menu of such programs. Like a String, Key Etc? I like to keep my rig from prying eyes. I am using windows 7 pro 64bit.

did you try this
right click the Start button and select Properties. Remove both check marks from the options in the Privacy section.

Note: This is a global setting and will apply to all program pinned to the Taskbar.

already did that, its program specific I'm talking about, not the jump lists either

only way I know to clear em out is to remove the reg keys

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Paint\Recent File List.

you can try setting that container to read only but I'm not sure how that will affect it. or a basic powershell/vbscript in taskscheduler to wipe those keys every so often.

yeah- that's my trouble- I'm not a code/script writer (only modified a driver to support AMD64 since the driver was made pre 64bit and wouldn't install unless if the line was implemented haha) - shouldn't have to go in there to wipe it all the time either lol.

GPEDIT.msc doesn't have a setting in there either.

Can you lock down your profile a little with a password and make other users login to a different profile? Correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't recently opened files in those applications attributed to the profile? I'm pretty sure that's the case...and if so would be an easy solution IMHO. Unless you're housemates or family members are savvier...that'd probably be enough to keep out prying eyes.

to prevent it from autopopulating try making the reg key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Applets\Paint\Recent File List read only

that's all off already dude lol, I'm really surprised there is no fix for the recent files list/MRU in the file menu of programs haha

I appreciate the help, MS really needs to implement a Group Policy or a string that can do that for all programs installed
