OK, so my mom called me said dad was looking at to much pr0n on the pc and it keeps getting hammered by virus's. So she wanted me to put some sort of filter to block all of the NSFW stuff. So ive decided i would like to have fun with it and redirect all NSFW websites to kittenwar.com how do implement something like this?

you could do specific sites with the hosts file. just look in his history and put an entry for every one of them to redirect to your site. i know there is porn blocker software but i can't recommend any. of the ones i have installed for customers they were boring and secure :)

then add the entry:
205.196.209.62 pornsite.com
edit:(the ip(205.196.209.62) is kittenwar's ip, that's how you direct pornsite.com to it)

to your hosts file

agree with cj, anything complete will cost money and need updating. opendns is cool too.

Don't know about the kitten thing, but I do know that blocking "all NSFW" websites is gonna require a service/software that is updated regularly. This can either be done with software or with a router that supports such a feature, since the list of NSFW websites is constantly changing. Suggest you start with the option for family friendly surfing that is included as part of Windows Live Essentials.

so for example only:

146.82.204.113 pornhub.com

where do i add the redirect?

OpenDNS and OpenDNS.

Not sure i can use open dns on a DSL connection

146.82.204.113 pornhub.com

This solution isn't practical. There are probably millions of IP addresses with adult content and the list is constantly changing. There are plenty of services and proxies that can block NSFW content, but the re-direct probably isn't an option with them. Just drop the kitten idea and make your life easy while still meeting your mother's request.

sounds like a personal problem between those 2, they need to speak to eachother.

more like less speak, more sex

or teach your dad how to find virus free porn on the internet

well that's why i said, a complete solution will cost money. however if you see he only visits 3 sites and all the time, and you want to make a point rather than actually block everything, it's not necessarily impractical. at the scale you are talking about: definitely impractical.
so for example only:

146.82.204.113 pornhub.com

actually, no, i added the edit to clarify. the ip is for kittenwar, then the domain would be pornhub correct.

in c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
note hosts is a file, not a directory. it has no extension but you can open it in any text editor. i suggest a backup in case, though it is very simple.

as cj has said though, if you truly want to filter all nsfw content, redirecting to kittenwar is probably not possible. it tends to be a serious operation ;)

OpenDNS should work any internet connection it is just DNS resolving

Yep, you just set the static DNS settings in the router, or on the computer itself, to the OpenDNS addresses. It doesn't matter what connection you are one, it will work.

O come on just tell your dad where the sites are that dont have viruses. And tell your mom to do her job and take care of the old man. Awkward that she would come to you about this
