Replace flex ATX PSU fan/ Suggestions welcomed

As I said in previous thread I got an old 3D printer gifted, but the PSU fan is really loud. I opened it up this morning and it is a 60mm x 15mm 2 pin fan. I would like to replace it with something a bit more quiet. Can you shoot some suggestions? Can I go with a dollar ones from Aliexpress or they have to be PSU/server graded? Noctua has 60x25mm, but I don't think it will fit and even if it does how do I change the 3-4pin header to a 2-pin header? What kind of crimping tool do I need? Attaching pic of the PSU. 2 pin is just a DC power, 4 pin has extra pwm and rpm sensor

Get yourself a resistor. Fan will become slower, thus more quiet.

Beware of overheating tho.

A. Your fan is loud by design.

In this case is difficult to find a solution to silence your printer. Silent low size fans such as Noctua could be not effective enough to maintain required airflow because low RPM. Usually industrial grade applications require high cooling capacity in low space areas. That is why they decide to use small size - high speed fans.

B. Your fan is worn out

In this case there are more solutions. You can find an original fan in the ebay depending on your printer or fan model name. If you will look for a different fan, you can acheve lower sound however, you should check if it have same operating voltage as well as similar amperage and spinning speed.

Since I cant hear the noise it is difficult to say which issue is in your case.

Fan connection: it is easy to use 3-4 pin fan in 2 pin mode. You just need to connect positive wire with negative wire. You can to cut both fans cables and connect old fan connector to your new fan.

Before buying new fan please check sticker on your original fan. It will inform you if 5V/ 12V or 24V fan you need.

Also compressed air dust removal + WD 40 could improve your current fan performance

I replaced a PSU fan once and then connected the fan to a fan header of the motherboard, it worked for me. (Enermax PSU)

That was back in the days where I dared more modding and such, won't do it again now these days though, I prefer a stable system without issues.

as long as you can find out (and match) airflow, shouldnt be a problem.
i never really cared about (airflow), as long as temps werent worse (matching fan cfm or not)

2 wires are just +-, you dont need rpm readout for that application, so just ignore yellow wire if its 3 pin fan.
test if the new one works, then strip a longer piece from the old, and replace the fan plug on the new one.

noiseblocker and arctic usually do a decent job, and carry silent smaller units, common for ppl to use on non pc stuff like cabinet events or bd players.

Has 3 pins, but shouldn't be a problem.
At least, if it's not working, you'd lose around 4 Euros.
