I have a ATI 3650 in a machine I built for my aunt the stock 3650 fan is stuck at 80% resulting in a obscenely noisy machine
anyone know how many CFM it would take to keep this card under 90c
replacing the card is not really a option I was thinking somware in the 30-40 CFM range would be enough

Have you tried using msi afterburner to reduce the fan speed or the normal ATI Catalyst center in ati overdrive settings.

the fan controller on the card is either borked or damaged so no software fan control PERIOD
edit: I already tried re flashing the card with a modded bios with lower fan speeds still locked at 80%

have you physically checked the card? one time my mates ole FX5700 was howling away becuase it was chocked full of dust.

otherwise my suggestion is completely fuck off the stock fan and cable tie an 80mm to it or just point a fan at the card.

the 3650 is pretty low and chances are she's not putting it through 3d load anyway.

Assuming there is space in the case, don't just replace the mini-fan, but swap out the whole cooler for something relatively cheap like Arctic Cooling Accelero L2 Pro

yea the card wont be used for anything but video playback and maby a game of big game hunter 2005 :p
so ya I have a spare CPU fan from a AMD 5000+ think It would move enough air

also WHY THE FK would I put a after market cooler on some 5 year old pos 3650 ? :banghead:

... the card its self seems undamaged I m just looking to get it quieter

Put it this way the cooling accelero L2 pro is only a simple replacement as a stock cooler,its not a very mid or high end cooler with proper copper base like a thermalright V2 or a a TR-h03 or something,its a basic cooler the L2

Because it only costs $10. Not much more than the cost of a replacement fan (+ shipping). And it will be silent on a 3650 with low fan RPM, not obscenely noisy. And isn't that what you were complaining about? :pimp:
