A few days ago my OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU in my main rig died. After some searching around it turns out they have been failing in droves over the past year. It is a bit over 3 years old (conveniently, the length of the warranty). I am currently waiting for OCZ to reply to my RMA request and I am hoping that they will be willing to replace it, but otherwise I am in the market for a new quality PSU.
It will power the PC listed in my specs to the left, however I'd like it to be able to handle a GPU upgrade (likely in spring 2012) as well. I may also upgrade to Ivy Bridge or a future Intel platform in the next 6 to 12 months.

I've been thinking about getting a Corsair because of the 7 year warranty they offer.

What's the best buy for the money in the Corsair line? Other suggestions are welcome too.

Yep, FSP Epsilon based design. Has always been cheap for a reason. Unreliable platform.

I'd suggest this one, it's a pretty solid unit, especially for the price. They also offer a 7 year warranty and the Silencer is based on a SeaSonic S12 platform. Better than the CWT designs of Corsair.

PC Power and Cooling Silencer 760W High Performanc...

That really sucks too because I paid over $100 for the OCZ at the time too and I thought it was a good one.

I was thinking about PC Power and Cooling as well. Any reason to go with the 760W over this 750W one with a 120mm vs 80mm fan?
PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W

Nah, I'd stay away from MK2. Those are made by Sirtec after OCZ bought PCP&C out; their build quality isn't impressive. They perform worse than the original Silencers, and the 80mm in fact cools better. It creates a vacuum chamber inside of the PSU, for the air to come in from the front, and go out from the back. Like a GPU cooler. Overheaded 120mm fans on the other hand just blow it on top of topology. ;)

Ok cool, I had a feeling the more traditional PCP&C design was better.

I think I'd rather have the 7 year warranty on the PC Power and Cooling then the modularity. What I really want to know is why they include carrying cases with it.

To maintain easier I think - full modularity. No cables to worry about, all can be took out and put in bag... but yeah, people once bashed me against the Silencer for suggesting a non-modular unit. lol. It has better ripple compression and performance than the Lazer Gold as well, which is one of the best in it's class

Silverstone,Corsair and Thermaltake Toughpower Series

Would the Silencer 760W be noisier then my old OCZ or a Corsair HX650/750?

The tweaked S12D 760W design actually outdoes the X650 as well. It regulates better.

P.S, avoid low watt Toughpowers. They're either old or weaker designs that aren't worth it.
That depends on your priorities. The X650 did outstanding in that review and was much more efficient and quiet.

The review for the silencer in the quote above says it's very noisy.

It definately won't. It also is better than the older HX.

The S12D is a better platform than X650. Firstly, you save $8 per-year with Gold over Silver, so with that taken out, the only thing that's left is modularity, which the OP doesn't care about. The S12D regulates and cools better. Also, have you given attention to what I posted? Pulling 900W in the hot box... yeah, very noisy. Let's turn it one page back to cold load (realistic) tests,

The OP isn't going to push the unit anywhere close to it's limits. So the fan wouldn't even be noticeable over anything else.

The Silencer is the best choice here.

the Antec TPQ series is pretty good as well.

I'm sorta leaning toward the Cosair HX650 or the Seasonic X-650 now because quietness is certainly important. Probably should have just ordered the Seasonic while it was $99 yesterday but I'm gonna wait and see if Newegg has any deals on these or similar models on Friday. If not I guess I'll just order one of them at normal price.

Jesus, let me know how the X-650 works out for you, specifically noise and when the fan kicks in.

I will, but it's probably not going to be here until Monday, due to Thanksgiving.

I was about to order it until I saw that many people complain about "coil whine" on it. The 750W is on sale today for $120 which also seems like a good price, but the same issue seems way to common reading around the web.

Well I hope I don't have that issue lol.

There seems to be two camps: The people who say they have never heard their Seasonic make any noise at all, and the people who complain about coil whine.

Just thought I'd update everyone on this thread. I ended up going with the Seasonic X750 while it was on sale Thanksgiving weekend for $109. Haven't ran it very long so far, just got it last night. My initial impressions are pretty good. It's a bit bigger then the dead OCZ, and the weight and build quality seems a little better too. The 80 Plus Gold certification and the fact that the fan turns off when the PSU is below 25 Celsius were the two selling features for me. So far it seems fairly quiet because I'm noticing sounds in my PC I didn't before (my front case fan and my hard drives seem more noticeable then before).

Jesus, how is the X650?

I love it. I haven't noticed the fan having to spin up once yet. I just wish it had a bit longer of a CPU power cable, but I was still able to make it reach.

Yea my X750 has been good so far too and as you said, I don't think the fan has actually spun up yet. Maybe a bit during games, but unlike my OCZ, the PSU is no longer the loudest part of my PC. Interesting, do you have the PSU on the bottom of the case? Mines on the top, and the CPU cable seemed too long for me. I did find the SATA cable a bit short however.
